Our Technology team has 6 different departments: Information Security, Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, eCommerce & Marketing Technology, Data and Stores, Services & Supply Chain.

 

Whether it’s online or in our stores, the work that the IT team does is instrumental in PetSmart’s success. We have a strategic and actionable plan underway and are looking for associates who are just as excited about it as we are.

About the Location

JOB SUMMARY

The Digital Engineering team is a high-impact, dynamic team of top-notch software engineers across a landscape of various Web and Mobile technology stacks. This role is ideally for someone who has experience developing websites within a large-scale retail environment.

The Software Engineer – Web will use the latest technologies to develop, implement, and maintain elements of petsmart.com

Our scrum teams operate as Product and Platform teams. As part of the team, this person will collaborate with Product Managers, Business Partners, UX/UI Designers, Architects, and other Engineers to produce high quality solutions to the many challenges our business face. At every level, our IT associates are empowered to come up with innovative ideas that have strategic impacts to the business.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

Build highly performant web applications using TDD and 12factor app practices Need to work independently without any helpAnalyze business requirements, provide accurate development estimates, offer experience-based feedback, and help determine the proper implementationActively participate in and contribute to all scrum ceremonies – planning sessions, retrospectives, and reviewsConduct and participate in peer reviews of team members’ codeEvaluate and prototype new technologies that could be a potential improvement to our current tech stackSupport other engineers in your team and related teams

 

EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED

Full-stack Engineer with a Minimum of 6 years of web development within an enterprise environmentExcellent problem solverExpert at building highly performant ecommerce siteExperience with the following development technologies, libraries, frameworks:JavaScript/TypeScriptNextJSNodeTerraformEvent Driven ArchitectureKubernetesRESTful APIsFamiliarity with continuous integration and deploymentProven experience integrating with APIs and 3rd Party systems integrationsExperience developing distributed systems Understanding of Core Web Vitals and developing highly performant client-side applicationsProficient understanding of source control and build tools, such as Github, Github Actions, Jenkins, SonarQubeExperience developing in an Agile environment, and familiarity with Agile tracking tools such as Jira, Confluence, etc.Ability to understand business requirements and the underlying complex technical dependenciesAbility to address short-term tactical requirements without losing sight of the longer-range strategic directionSelf-motivated and disciplined to honor commitments made to the development teamA collaborative, team playerExcellent oral and written communication skillsBS / BA degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education or experience
