Software Engineer - Embedded Systems

We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to lead the development of embedded software for cutting-edge acoustic systems used in complex, secure environments. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape architecture, drive technical direction, and deliver production-ready software that integrates into sophisticated multi-system platforms.

What You’ll DoOwn the architecture and execution of embedded software projects from concept to deployment.Lead technical decisions across software, hardware, FPGA, and systems teams.Design secure, scalable interfaces for integration with external systems and third-party platforms.Contribute to containerized deployments using Kubernetes in secure environments.Drive cybersecurity compliance (CMMC, NIST 800-218) and observability (e.g., Fluentd).Collaborate with project managers to define milestones and track execution.Mentor engineers and lead code reviews, design sessions, and troubleshooting efforts.What You BringBachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.10+ years of experience in embedded software development.Expertise in C, C++ (C++11 or later), and Python.Deep knowledge of embedded Linux, bare-metal firmware, and real-time systems.Proven ability to lead architecture and integration in cross-functional teams.U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for DoD Secret clearance.Willingness to work onsite in Santa Barbara (remote not available).Bonus Points ForExperience with Yocto/Buildroot, SBOM standards (SPDX, CycloneDX), and DevOps tools (GitLab CI, Kubernetes).Familiarity with DSP, undersea acoustics, or signal processing.Knowledge of SoC architectures and CPU–FPGA shared memory.Exposure to automated security testing (e.g., SonarQube, GitLab SAST).What We Offer

Salary: $145,000 – $185,000+ (commensurate with experience and leadership scope)
