Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
We are seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to lead our Leo Software Security organization. This is a critical leadership role responsible for teams that protect our entire satellite constellation ecosystem from ground infrastructure to on-orbit assets. You will own security across flight software, ground software, firmware, and hardware, ensuring our systems meet the highest standards of protection against evolving threats.
Key Responsibilities:
Security Leadership & Ownership:
- Lead multiple teams responsible for flight and ground software security architecture and implementation
- Own end-to-end security strategy for Leo constellation, including threat modeling, vulnerability management, and incident response
- Drive security-first culture across engineering organizations
Flight & Ground Software Security:
- Establish and enforce security standards for both space and ground segment software
- Oversee secure software development practices, code reviews, and vulnerability assessments
- Ensure compliance with aerospace security regulations and industry standards
Firmware & Hardware Security:
- Lead teams responsible for firmware security across satellite payloads and subsystems
- Oversee hardware security implementations including secure boot, trusted execution environments, and tamper detection
- Drive security requirements into hardware design and procurement processes
Encryption & Key Management:
- Own peer-to-peer (P2P) security and encryption architecture for satellite-to-satellite communications
- Establish and manage cryptographic key lifecycle including generation, distribution, rotation, and revocation
- Implement secure communication protocols across the constellation mesh network
- Design scalable key management infrastructure for large-scale constellation operations
Organizational Leadership:
- Build, mentor, and scale multiple security-focused engineering teams
- Partner with cross-functional leaders (Flight Software, Ground Systems, Operations, Compliance)
- Define roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and allocate resources across security domains
- Represent security perspective in executive decision-making
Required Qualifications:
- 12+ years of software development experience with - 5+ years managing engineering teams
- 3+ years in senior leadership roles managing multiple teams or managers
- Deep expertise in cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies
- Strong background in cryptography, encryption protocols, and key management systems
- Experience with firmware and hardware security concepts and implementations
- Proven track record securing distributed systems at scale
- Understanding of threat landscapes, attack vectors, and defense-in-depth strategies
Technical Expertise:
- Cryptographic protocols and implementations (symmetric/asymmetric encryption, PKI, TLS/mTLS)
- Secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC)
- Firmware security and secure boot mechanisms
- Hardware security modules (HSM) and trusted platform modules (TPM)
- Network security for space-based and ground infrastructure
- Vulnerability management and penetration testing
Security monitoring, logging, and incident response

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with aerospace, satellite systems, or mission-critical infrastructure security
- Knowledge of satellite communication protocols and standards
- Experience with zero-trust architecture and modern security frameworks
- Familiarity with ITAR, EAR, and government security clearance processes
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field
- Security certifications (CISSP, CISM, CEH, or equivalent)
- Experience with DevSecOps and security automation
