The department of Drug Product Development is responsible for developing manufacturing processes that enable delivery of AbbVie’s candidate molecules in a dosage form which is intended for product commercialization. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist in the Process Engineering group based in Ludwigshafen, Germany. AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative scientist with a proven track record that can optimize manufacturing processes and lead projects for small molecules.

 


Job Description

Responsibilities:

Leading late-stage drug product manufacturing process development and optimization for small molecule development candidates within the AbbVie pipelineCollaborating with drug product development CMC teams to ensure formulation and manufacturing processes are amenable with the intended commercial manufacturing sitesAdvancing scientific expertise within the functionProactively demonstrating leadership by advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior managementEnsuring development of technologies and scientific innovation that improve the capability to formulate small molecules within the AbbVie pipelineCollaborating with other functions within AbbVie to align a broad range of strategies that directly support drug discovery and development programsEnsuring compliance with AbbVie safety, quality and regulatory policies and government regulations

 


Qualifications
B.Sc. or equivalent education and 12+ years of experience or M.Sc. or equivalent education with 10+ years of experience or PhD with 4+ years of experienceProven project leadership in solid oral drug product development with advanced knowledge of manufacturing platforms such as direct compression, granulation, and hot melt extrusionExpertise in powder material properties and their effects on drug manufacturability and final product performance, alongside the ability to interpret models for product optimizationStrong skills in troubleshooting process/material issues and applying techniques for scaling up processes to commercial equipmentDemonstrated ability to work creatively, functioning as a principal investigator generating original ideas and 'out of the box' solutions, and championing new technologiesRecognized expert with a track record of success as primary author of scientific publications, presentations, patents, and regulatory submissionsExcellent communication skills with experience in presenting at leading scientific conferences and a commitment to collaborative work in cross-functional teams
