Job Description
The Biologics Discovery Sciences group at AbbVie are seeking an accomplished scientist who will make substantial contributions to the conception, execution and communication of antibody discovery strategies in a highly collaborative environment. A primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to develop and execute research strategies to enable the discovery and development of therapeutic antibodies for AbbVie’s core therapeutics areas. They will be responsible for the design and execution of in vitro display technologies for lead antibody identification/optimization. In addition, it is expected that the candidate will utilize their expertise to generate internal and external collaborations as necessary to further program goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving antibody discovery programs within a multidisciplinary research group in an exciting, fast-paced team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking an accomplished scientist who will make substantial contributions to the conception, execution and communication of antibody discovery strategies in a highly collaborative environmentImplement novel selection strategies and build industry-leading libraries for discovery and screening of therapeutic candidatesIdentify and solve technical problems independently, conceive and implement innovative research ideasLeverage expertise to develop and implement research to gain a detailed mechanistic understanding of the molecular pharmacology of therapeutic moleculesUtilize computational skills independently and in partnership with AI/ML and Digital Transformation teams to amplify in vitro technology work and build into AbbVie’s AI/ML infrastructureProvide project updates, analyses and advice to cross-functional teams and senior managementPresent original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patentsEnsure consistency and quality of technical reportsAbility to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative researchServe as a biologics lead for cross-functional teams, and contribute scientific insights into multiple projects across various therapeutic areas; recognized and sought out as an expert in discovery and engineering of therapeutic moleculesQualifications
Qualifications:
PhD, MS, or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering or related disciplines with typically 0-3 (PhD), 8+ (MS), or 10+ (BS) years of experienceHands-on experience with in vitro antibody discovery display technologies (e.g., phage, yeast, mammalian)Extensive experience and up-to-date knowledge in antibody engineering and optimization (e.g., humanization, Fc optimization) best practicesAntibody/ antibody fragment library design, constructionStrong molecular biology skillsFamiliarity with sequence analysis tools (Geneious, PipeBio, GeneData)Application of computational tools within in vitro workflows to advance efficiencyExperience with flow cytometryAbility to explore and develop new approaches to further advance innovative in vitro discovery and screening technologiesExcellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyTeam player with the ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment with functional and therapeutic areasAdaptability to rapid changes in project priorities and timelinesRecognized in the scientific community through a record of peer-reviewed publications and patents preferredHighly developed leadership and communication skillsKeen ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative researchKey AbbVie Competencies:

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
