LOCATION: On-Site in Louisville, CO OVERVIEW: The Senior Scientist supports Biodesix technology assessments, early and late-stage molecular and proteomic Product Development product concepts. We are seeking an experienced bench scientist, specialized in the conduct of molecular and/or proteomic test methods in the laboratory. Specifically, they will lead in developing and optimizing targeted NGS and/or droplet digital PCR tests, to meet clinical and analytic requirements for our regulated product service diagnostic tests. An understanding of commonly available bioinformatic approaches is expected. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to design and support the execution of experiments including analyze data from product development concepts. Key responsibilities include providing leadership and mentorship guidance to junior team members and interns and will support technology assessments, early concepts through the product development process including integration into our Laboratory Operations team. The senior scientist will contribute individually and in cross-functional Core Teams. Active collaboration with external partner and academic scientific teams is expected. Strong preference for an innovative scientist with a proven track record of excellence in scientific training, assay development, and laboratory technical implementation beyond proof of concept. This is an on-site laboratory role. RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking an outstanding senior-level scientist, comfortable with performing benchwork as required, current with state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques (including ddPCR, qPCR and data analytical and reporting tasks in NGS). Experience with sample preparation and the operation mass spectrometry and spectral acquisition is a plus. Excellent communication with all peer relationships is required Must be comfortable working with diverse levels of scientists and non-scientists to complete product development projects, able to work with complex and large data sets, present information in both large and small groups and manage group projects The candidate will make significant technical contributions to our fast-paced, dynamic team in developing clinical diagnostics to accelerate the use of proteomic testing and/or molecular genomic testing for personalized medicine, including CDx Critical experiences include strong laboratory experience required to perform all job functions, including personnel training, SOP writing/updates to support integration and optimization of our Mass Spectrometry experience in a regulated Laboratory is a plus The position will work closely with the CAP/CLIA and NYS Laboratory Directors, and with other cross-functional team members in early and later-stage Product Development, Laboratory Operations, Applications Engineering, Commercial Operations, Legal, Quality and Regulatory Ongoing training will be provided to supplement key skills required to perform the functions of this position as applicable Appropriate designees may act as responsible delegates according to the Biodesix Quality Matrix REQUIREMENTS: Lead efforts to develop, optimize and implement robust and reliable diagnostic tests using cutting-edge technologies, with a focus on ultra-sensitive ddPCR, NGS and bioinformatic assessment of genome sequences Participate in technology assessment and early-stage research and product development projects, complete projects in a timely manner, and comply with documentation and quality policies required in the Biodesix Product Development Process (PDP) Analyze data and solve problems where analysis requires appropriate knowledge and software use Prepare technical reports, summaries, and quantitative analysis for presentation and external review Participate in and/or lead projects requiring collaborations with personnel within and outside the department, including with external collaborators Maintain familiarity with literature and technical advances in molecular and proteomic instrumentation Demonstrate ability to delegate and train junior staff, including interns EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master's in molecular biology, Chemistry or a closely related field, with at least 6 years of post-graduate experience. PhD preferred. Outstanding candidates with alternative academic training accompanied by a proven track-record of the conduct of regulated product development that includes proteomics and/or genomic technologies in liquid biopsy testing will be considered Extensive knowledge of proteomics, genetics, genomics, molecular diagnostic assays, and their detection technologies Extensive mass spectrometry and PCR/NGS technologies experience required Successful assay development experience in liquid biopsies is preferred Proven track record of developing and executing collaborative project plans on time Experience with regulatory submissions and/or documentation is required Evidence of direct and indirect team management in a regulated laboratory Strong evidence of conducting technical training of peers in a regulated laboratory Demonstrated competence and willingness to support our electronic document management system in creating and managing SOP and other documents in support of product improvement and product development Demonstrated working knowledge of HIPAA compliance and common laboratory procedures.
