Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Risk Partner to lead the governance and integration of risk management practices across the Old Mutual Group. This Line 2 role is pivotal in shaping and embedding risk governance frameworks, driving policy development, and ensuring regulatory alignment across our diverse entities. The successful candidate will bring strategic insight, technical depth, and leadership capability to elevate risk maturity and enable business resilience.
Key Result Areas
Risk Governance Leadership
Develop and implement tailored governance frameworks for each entity within the Group.
Align governance protocols with enterprise risk management strategies and regulatory expectations.
Champion best practices in governance across the Group.
Policy Stewardship
Lead the development, review, and embedding of risk-related policies.
Ensure policies meet insurance standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain oversight of the policy lifecycle and central repository.
Regulatory Risk Reporting
Oversee the coordination and consolidation of regulatory risk reporting.
Ensure timely, accurate submissions to regulators and internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with Compliance and Legal to monitor regulatory changes and implications.
Internal Reporting
Oversee the coordination and consolidation of internal reporting to the various governance structures.
Ensure timely, accurate submissions to internal stakeholders.
Collaborate across functions to ensure an integrated view of risks is presented.
Risk Taxonomy & Classification
Design and implement a robust risk taxonomy and classification methodology.
Promote consistent risk identification and assessment across the Group.
Engage stakeholders to ensure taxonomy relevance and usability.
Governance Enablement & Integration
Drive training and change management initiatives to embed governance into business processes.
Support first-line teams in understanding and applying governance policies.
Lead the integration of the CURA risk management tool across the Group.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Lead and mentor a team of governance specialists.
Align team objectives with Group Risk strategy and business priorities.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Management
Collaborates strongly with Executive teams to ensure risks are managed appropriately.
Provides support to the Line 1 risk owners, controls owners, risk indicator owners, management action owners and risk coordinators, so they are enabled to fulfil their risk management responsibilities.
Will be required to fulfil a “Risk Partner” role.
Provides input into the quarterly review of risk profiles for functional units/entities in collaboration with other Risk CoEs and assurance providers.
Strong collaboration is required with all Risk CoEs and other Assurance providers.
Can challenge in senior forums such as Manboards and Steercom.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Governance, Law, or related field.
8–10 years’ experience in governance, risk, or compliance roles within insurance or financial services.
Proven track record in policy development, regulatory reporting, and risk taxonomy design.
Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
Experience:
Deep understanding of insurance governance standards and regulatory frameworks.
Strategic thinker with the ability to operationalize governance principles.
Strong communication, facilitation, and training skills.
Analytical mindset with problem-solving acumen.
Collaborative approach to partnering with Line 1 and assurance functions.
Ability to lead and inspire a high-performing team.
