What is the Workplace Retirement Sales team responsible for?

Franklin Templeton’s Workplace Retirement Sales team within US Distribution is responsible for directing and expanding sales of mutual funds, CIT's and sub-advised portfolio products in employer-sponsored retirement plans offered through the workplace.  The Workplace Retirement Sales team works closely with other channels within US Distribution (Wirehouse, RBI, PWD), as well as Franklin Templeton’s independent Specialist Investment Managers, as subject matter experts on ERISA retirement plan design, plan investment menu design and analysis, Franklin Templeton’s proprietary advice engine “GOE,” FinTech, current industry trends and Franklin Templeton products and services.  The Workplace Retirement Sales team offers thought leadership in retirement plan services, investments, and works diligently as a key business partner to retirement plan advisory firms, consultants, and retirement plan sponsors, with the goal of helping more Americans reach a positive retirement outcome.

What is the Senior Retirement Plan Consultant responsible for?

The Senior Retirement Plan Consultant (SRPC) serves as a subject matter expert and strategic partner within Franklin Templeton’s Workplace Retirement Sales team. Working closely with a Senior Retirement Plan Director (external wholesaler), the SRPC is responsible for driving sales of mutual funds, CITs, and sub-advised products in employer-sponsored retirement plans. This role requires advanced knowledge of ERISA, plan design, investment menu construction, and platform partner capabilities.

The SRPC leads client engagement efforts, mentors Retirement Plan Consultants, and contributes to firm-wide initiatives. They are expected to proactively build relationships with top-tier advisors, deliver thought leadership, and support the firm’s mission of helping more Americans achieve positive retirement outcomes.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Retirement Plan Consultant?

Partner with SRPS to develop and execute territory business plans.

Serve as the primary internal point of contact for Tier 1 and Tier 2 DC advisors.

Lead proactive outreach and relationship development with financial professionals.

Deliver high-impact presentations on Franklin Templeton products, services, and value-add tools.

Identify and cultivate new retirement-focused producers.

Collaborate with platform partners and third-party administrators to uncover and advance 401(k) opportunities.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in CRM systems.

Analyze sales and asset reports to identify growth opportunities.

Mentor and supports Retirement Plan Consultants.

Represent Franklin Templeton in industry events and internal cross-functional initiatives.

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

3+ years equivalent sales or service experience and/or outbound call environment preferred.

Experience in outbound sales environments and advisor engagement.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

FINRA Series 7 and 63 required

CRPS, AIF, or other retirement-related designations preferred or willingness to obtain.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge of Contact Management Systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, RRI, FI360, 401(k) Prospecting databases

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  

Experience in an outbound call environment required

Deep understanding of 401(k) plans, ERISA, and investment menu design.

Strong presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools.

Self-starter with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

Compensation: Franklin Templeton offers employees a competitive and valuable range of total rewards—monetary and non-monetary—designed to support the whole person and to recognize their time, talents, and results. Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. We expect the annual salary for this position to range between $70,000-80,000, depending on location and level of relevant experience, plus discretionary bonus.
