Senior Engineering Specialist - Software Development & Integration Lab
Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as onsite. The successful candidate is expected to report to the Markham Elevation Center in Markham, Ontario, on a full-time basis (5 days each week).
About The Role:
The Software Development & Integration (SDI) Lab houses a variety of physical test benches that simulate vehicle subsystems, enabling engineering teams to develop, test, and validate vehicle electronic control unit (ECU) software.
These benches include ECUs, sensors, actuators, connectors, wiring harnesses, displays, and instrumentation tools. They are shared assets used by hundreds of engineers across the organization, both remotely and onsite.
As a Senior Lab Engineering Specialist, you will lead the development, integration, and maintenance of component-, subsystem-, and system-level test benches and their supporting infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include electrical system integration, bench construction, hardware/software debugging, ECU flashing, and automation tool development to support test automation and improve lab efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the build and development of test benches for new vehicle features and technologiesLead the integration of ECUs, sensors, actuators, displays, and instrumentation toolsOwn test bench system requirements and verification methodsEnsure reliability of lab infrastructure and hardware-in-the-loop test platformsDevelop automation scripts to streamline bench bring-up and testing workflowsProvide training and technical guidance to lab users, including issue resolutionFlash ECUs using Vehicle Software Configuration Management (VeSCoM) toolsConfigure and maintain bench test PCs, including Gold Image deploymentSupport lab procurement and inventory management of critical tools, hardware, and softwareRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering)5+ years of experience in building and integrating hardware-in-loop systemsProficiency with automotive Ethernet and CAN communication tools and protocolsStrong hands-on experience with Intrepid, ETAS, and Vector toolsetsExperience in programming/scripting with Python or other related languagesAdvanced skills in electrical and mechatronics system troubleshootingPreferred Qualifications:
Proven experience with vehicle electrical architecture and embedded softwareExperience in using test automation frameworks (Robot) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins)Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilitiesInnovative mindset with a track record of success in fast-paced environmentsGM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE.
