Collins Aerospace is seeking a Sr Quality Engineer, to support the Development Quality & Integrity function within the Mission Systems strategic business unit. Ideal candidates should possess a passion for problem solving and satisfying customers through the delivery of improvements to the global engineering ecosystem, including providing compelling gains to the consistency, efficiency, and productivity of product development efforts across engineering processes and programs. The focus of this position will be to analyze Development processes and develop new methods to improve productivity, efficiency, and operational costs. The Senior Quality Engineer role examines the way an organization operates and its performance goals and recommends ways to achieve overall improvement. This position is performed with minimal supervision and requires a candidate with highly effective communication skills, a strong bias for action, and the ability to prioritize and advance multiple objectives.

What You Will Do

Provide solutions to complex technical design quality problems using established quality practices 

Stay current with evolving industry quality methods and implement relevant improvements 

Lead the development, implementation, and adoption of processes and procedures 

Review design products and processes for compliance with contract, regulatory and business requirements and assess work practices for adequacy  

Develop methods to ensure the successful completion of program quality assessments   

Partner with quality and program leadership to identify, escalate and resolve quality issues   

Communicate effectively with product development and testing teams through both written and verbal channels 

Knowledge of emerging quality and design development paradigms such as APQP, agile and DevSecOps  

Collaborate with leadership to evaluate and improve processes related to the design and release of design artifacts  

Define, negotiate, and support quality requirements for projects with focus on hardware/mechanical design 

 

The successful candidate will have mature skills and competencies in many of the following domains:  

Proficiency in quality engineering methods and practices 

Experience in design and development, including requirements capture, implementation, verification, validation, and ongoing support 

Knowledge of manufacturing processes and transition-to-production activities, such as planning, assembly, inspection, and testing 

Background in one or more of the following areas: operations quality, test equipment, modeling and simulation, firmware and configurable logic, systems engineering, mechanical/electrical engineering, or supplier quality 

Ability to develop and interpret metrics, and perform data analysis to drive improvements 

Ability to Travel upwards of 25% 

Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

Background in quality engineering or mechanical engineering ​

​Experience with ZDP, ACE, Lean, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis

Qualifications We Prefer

Ability to read and interpret specifications 

Data Mining experience  

Quality Certifications (ASQ, CQE)  

Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate difficult conversations and work effectively with factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders  

Familiarity with engineering drawings, work instructions, bills of materials (BOMs), consumable material controls, process discipline, and tool control practices

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
