Here’s the scoop - Summary

The Senior Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for the continuous improvement and maintenance of QA FS related programs while providing additional support for all Quality Assurance related functions and inquiries.

The Senior Quality Assurance Technician will help to ensure that the food safety and quality standards, practices and procedures are met.

This position is also responsible for assisting in establishing, promoting and supporting performance standards, procedures and controls that relate to the Company’s operating requirements.

What a typical day looks like:

Leads the Hold and Release Program for ingredients and finished goods.

Prepares reports and review data (cpk’s, trend analysis, etc.) for process improvements.

Tracks, responds and trend all the facility NCR/CAPA.

Assists in Traceability Exercises and mock recalls.

Food safety and quality system verification and validation as per schedule (internal food safety audits, CCP, sanitation monitoring, pre-op inspections, 3rd party audits, or any food safety failures).

Performs record verification.

Assists in the development of general food safety and regulatory compliance standards.

Oversees various process improvement initiatives to better ensure ongoing compliance.

Supports Quality Assurance Supervisor for new instrumentation and equipment set up in the laboratory including other champion sites.

Assist in Food defense, crisis management and Food fraud programs.

Manages Pest Control including contracts and corrective actions

Works to ensure the company’s Mission, Vision, Core Values and Culture of Champion Petfoods is understood and followed, demonstrated by her/his behavior of leading by example.

Performs additional assignments as per the direction of a Quality Assurance Supervisor or the Quality Assurance Manager.

Back up for other Senior QA tech job duties or required to help support the quality assurance department such as covering for QA technicians when needed.

What are we looking for?

Post Secondary Education in Food science, or related scientific field

Minimum 3 years of direct work experience with QA and FS guidelines and associated standards and with QA methodologies that include risk management, product testing, capability studies and control plans

Minimum 2-year exposure to HACCP certified and SQF/ FSSC or GFSI certified facilities

Mathematical/Statistical skills for use in computation of test results and trend analyses, and knowledge of data processing.

Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents and to develop, review and maintain metrics and quality audits

Self-directed, capable of multi-tasking, detail-oriented, analytical thinking abilities and strong problem identification and problem resolution skills

Ability to interface directly and successfully with cross-functional teams, with ability to train and/or mentor others

Travel and/or extended hours of work may be required

Working Conditions

Work environment is in a pet food production facility office; the position works onsite both in the office and production facility, with exposure to dust, noise, odours, and fluctuating temperaturesManual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripheralsWorking hours are Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30p.m, flexibility to cover other shifts is required.
