Senior Project Manager - Data Initiatives
Position Description:

As a Senior Project Manager, you will spearhead the planning and execution of data-driven projects and initiatives with enterprise-wide impact. Your role will encompass leading efforts in data management, strategizing and implementing data governance frameworks, and developing policies and procedures to ensure robust information security, data integrity, and access management. You will work cross-functionally, collaborating closely with various departments to proactively address challenges and drive progress. In this role, you will engage with business teams, technology experts, support services, and senior management. We seek a candidate with the experience and mindset to excel in this dynamic role.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Provide strong overall leadership to project team members and acts as an effective project manager who leads the project team towards the overall success of the project.  
• Leverage project team members and business data stewards, to plan and deliver guidelines and operational processes, and partner with technology and business on project deliverables to improve data quality and use.
• Establish and oversee the implementation of project governance for the data related projects, ensuring that teams and committees are adequately involved.
• Coordinate data governance sessions and work with individuals to ensure effective implementation and ongoing data governance management.
• Demonstrate full project ownership by managing project scope, timeline, and budget within agreed tolerances throughout the lifecycle of the project. 
• Create and adjust project plans in consultation with all stakeholders as required to meet objectives, and manages trade-offs between scope, quality, time and cost as necessary. 
• Provide timely project reporting for senior management including project status, plans, operational reports, and ad-hoc reporting.
• Facilitate change management and decision making by Project Sponsor or Steering Committee by presenting information and options for the way forward. 
• Produce project risk management plans to identify, assess and mitigate project risks.  
• Arrange the distribution of work within the company and to external contractors, provide instructions, advice and direction to project team members. 
• Ensure project deliverables meet stated requirements, are delivered to the required standard of quality and within the specified constraints of time and cost. 
• Work closely with the project team and other stakeholders to adhere to project change control policies, procedures, and practices for management of scope, notifying stakeholders of scope change, delays, and significant variances against budget, and prepare supporting documentation (PCR) for approval when required. 
• Function with a high degree of independence, exercises sound judgment and discretion in making decisions, manage resources and coordinate activities in a cross-team environment. 
• Proactively identify potential risks and issues before they occur so that proper mitigating strategies can be developed. Manage Risk and Issue logs.
• Other duties and projects as assigned

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• 5+ years of experience in data management projects at all levels, including capture, curation, and consumption of data, using industry leading data platforms.
• 10+ years of project management experience delivering large projects, preferably in the financial services industry, working with business stakeholders within a cross-functional matrix environment
• Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2) is preferred.
• Ability to effectively use tools and other resources to manage issues, risks, assumptions, and decisions.
• Comfortable dealing with projects that have many moving parts. 
• Exceptional analytical, problem solving, planning, organizational and time management skills.
• Highly developed business acumen
• Strong collaboration, communication, presentation, and influencing skills to gain buy-in across diverse stakeholder groups and to build confidence.
• Familiarity with data management tools, data privacy laws and commitment to the ethical use of data.

Location

This job may be located anywhere in Canada, with customers located in either Ontario or British Columbia. Therefore, the incumbent may be required on occasion to adjust their schedules and working hours to accommodate virtual meeting engagements in a time zone that they are not located in. Additionally, the Primary Business Unit serving credit unions in Canada is located in Halifax and you may also be expected to attend an online meeting to provide updates and for governance assurances to senior leadership.
