Senior Project Manager Construction, Data Centre Capacity Delivery

The Data Center Senior Construction Manager (SCM) is responsible for managing some of the most technical, cost efficient, and fast paced construction project schedules achievable.

We are constantly challenged to drive continuously improve processes to and delivery and technical efficiencies in data centers not just in Melbourne but to then transfer that to other projects around the world.

We are customer focused problem solvers and managers of diverse stakeholders.
We are typically project based, where the work happens, but have regular interface with leadership, partner teams and a wide variety of internal and collaborators.

As a Data Center CM you will be a part of highly creative, efficient team tasked with tackling a variety of challenges. Our focus is on time, and timely communication. The Data Center CM is ultimately responsible for the day to day construction oversight and management of the contractors, and all those that influence them. Our CMs and SCM come from a variety of backgrounds, with experience and leadership traits in any one of the following disciplines (construction management, building services, architectural, electrical/mechanical engineering, contracts and commercial). They will be responsible as both a leader and a team member for delivering surety of construction outcomes.

This role will include all aspects of the entire data center lifecycle construction starting with the site feasibility, through the procurement of the design teams and design review, daily construction oversight, and commissioning of completed facilities.

Key job responsibilities
Deliver high quality, on time Data Centers for our customers.
Our Construction Managers are highly skilled professionals with a focus on problem solving and a sense of ownership.

The Data Center CM will be responsible for:
- Project management and oversight of construction related activities for new builds or general capital projects in Melbourne. This will include the ownership of the project scope, timeline, and budget.
- Driving costs down and schedules shorter while maintaining quality.
- Provide Construction Management for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of our data centers.
- Review of constructability of electrical and mechanical system and building designs associated with the construction of new data centers or the optimization of existing data centers.
- Creation of project scope and equipment requirements, assist with request for proposals, and capital requests.
- Total project quality including the assisting with commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight of the execution of the project.
- Issue/Manage the Request for Information process during construction and coordinate construction administration with engineers
- Recording and reporting key metrics to team members and management.
- Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
- Travel to datacenter sites for electrical systems audits, mechanical system reviews, constructability reviews, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.

A day in the life
AWS Construction Managers lead the delivery of our Data Center projects. They work closely with Internal Stakeholders and Contractors, resolving project issues, managing RFIs, Change Orders and other key delivery functions. Our CMs spend the majority of the week on site working closely with our vendors to drive project outcomes.
