Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Project Engineer to join our team!

What You'll Be Doing;

Lead and review the design development of tunnel structures, including cut-and-cover and bored tunnels, for airport infrastructure.

Ensure technical designs comply with international standards (e.g., Eurocode, BS, AASHTO) and client specifications.

Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, MEP, and civil teams to develop fully integrated design solutions.

Provide guidance on tunnel lining, waterproofing systems, fire protection strategies, and ventilation as per airport safety requirements.

Conduct technical reviews of design deliverables, risk assessments, and design change proposals.

Liaise with construction teams to interpret and clarify design documentation, ensuring alignment during implementation.

Respond to RFIs, coordinate design changes, and ensure that field modifications remain compliant with the overall engineering intent.

Provide site support during tunnel excavation, lining, and structural works, advising on temporary works, sequencing, and HSE implications.

Participate in site inspections, design validation checks, and field quality audits.

Act as the key point of contact for tunnel-related design matters, working with consultants, contractors, and client stakeholders.

Support project managers in schedule alignment, risk mitigation, and interface coordination with adjacent structures (e.g., terminal buildings, taxiways).

Lead and participate in design coordination meetings, technical workshops, and value engineering sessions.

Ensure that all design activities incorporate safe-by-design principles, considering operational and maintenance safety post-construction.

Review contractor HSE submissions for tunnel works and provide design-related insights to ensure compliance.

Promote awareness of tunneling-specific hazards, including confined space entry and fire safety considerations.

Prepare and review design reports, calculations, technical notes, and tunnel inspection records.

Contribute to the preparation of tender documents, technical specifications, and material submittal evaluations.

Maintain accurate documentation of design decisions, technical reviews, and construction support actions.

Mentor junior tunnel engineers and provide technical leadership within the design team.

Ensure technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across all tunnel design deliverables.

Collaborate with third-party design consultants and in-house disciplines to resolve complex technical challenges.

Ensure all work adheres to relevant design standards, airport authority guidelines, and aviation safety requirements.

Remain up to date with emerging trends and updates in tunneling technologies, construction practices, and regulatory changes.

Review and ensure regulatory approvals, permits, and compliance with local building codes and aviation standards (e.g., ICAO, FAA).

What Required Skills You'll Bring;

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree in Tunnel/Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.

Minimum 15 years of experience in tunnel design and construction for infrastructure projects, preferably with airport or aviation-related exposure.

Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary tunnel design tasks through concept, detailed design, and construction phases.

Strong expertise in tunnel design methodologies including cut-and-cover, NATM, and TBM.

Proficient in structural and geotechnical design software (e.g., PLAXIS, MIDAS, STAAD Pro, Tunnel Designer, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).

Sound knowledge of QA/QC procedures, site verification, and technical design control.

Excellent communication and coordination skills with the ability to manage technical discussions across diverse stakeholders.

Chartered Engineer status (e.g., CEng, PE) or equivalent certification.

Experience with BIM coordination for tunnels and underground utility management.

Previous work on airport tunnel systems such as baggage tunnels, utility corridors, or airside access tunnels.

Familiarity with international airport standards (ICAO, FAA) and experience working with airport authorities or regulatory agencies.

Fluency in English (written and spoken); Arabic is an advantage.
