Position Summary
The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health is seeking a Programmer Manager to lead a team of talented programmers. This role involves defining system scope and objectives based on client needs, solving complex problems, and ensuring the successful delivery of technical projects. The Programmer Manager will guide the design, coding, testing, and documentation of applications while providing technical leadership and mentorship. The ideal candidate will bring advanced skills in Power BI, SQL, Python or other programming languages, scripting, and web development.
Responsibilities
Guide the development/programming team efforts toward successful project deliveryProvide technical leadership and mentorship to teammatesMaintain high software quality standards within the teamIdentify and promote areas for growth and improvementAssist in collecting and documenting user requirements, developing user stories, estimates, and work plansPrepare reports, manuals, and documentation on software status, operation, and maintenanceDesign, develop, and unit test applications following established standardsPackage and support deployment of releasesMigrate legacy applications to current Microsoft technologiesAnalyze and resolve technical and application problemsIdentify opportunities for application and process improvementProvide third-level technical support to business usersLiaise regularly with Directors and the Executive Director of Student Health to determine development prioritiesAssist Information Services staff with programming projectsManage the student upload process into the EHR database and registration hold workflowsAct as a liaison with VPSA, ITS, MCC, and other stakeholders as neededMaintain the Medicat application (SQL-based Medical Clinic Management system)Coordinate with the Medicat vendor and internal teams to ensure optimal functionality and data integrityServe as the primary resource for Medicat modules including Practice Management, Immunization Compliance Manager, Patient Portal, and Self Check-inDesign and develop web-based applications using MS Access, SQL, .Net, and Crystal ReportsDevelop and manage a responsive reporting system for business, clinical, and leadership needsTroubleshoot hardware, software, and communications as neededPerform other departmental duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferredExperience: At least 5 years of relevant professional experiencePreferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Power BI, SQL, Python, scripting, and web developmentAdvanced technical problem-solving skills and self-sufficiencyExperience with program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentationDemonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support team membersStrong communication and interpersonal skillsFamiliarity with Medicat or other medical clinic management softwareExperience developing web-based applications and using Microsoft technologiesBackground in a university or healthcare settingPhysical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary role involving extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or programs.
Salary Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $90,000.00–$110,000.00, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position includes UVA's outstanding benefits package.

Charlottesville, VA partially remote requiring to be on grounds 1 day a week.
