Senior Process Safety & Risk Engineer
Scope: Operations Expansion & Start-Up
Job Purpose
The Senior Process Safety & Risk Engineer is responsible for deploying and implementing asset-based process safety, loss prevention, and risk engineering strategies. The role provides expert advisory services to ensure compliance with industry standards and supports excellence across onshore and offshore assets, brownfield projects, and major capital initiatives.
Job Context & Challenges Coordination of process safety and risk management strategies across diverse assets and projects. Adapting to evolving regulations and extended scopes covering greenfield and brownfield developments. Operating independently while ensuring alignment with company policies and international standards. Managing priorities across multiple locations (onshore, offshore, and project sites).
Key Responsibilities Implement process safety, loss prevention, and risk management programs across assigned assets. Review engineering documentation and project deliverables to ensure compliance with safety standards. Facilitate hazard identification (HAZID) and risk assessment studies; prepare comprehensive reports. Support the implementation of loss prevention engineering procedures. Lead major safety studies such as QRA, HAZOP, SIL baseline/revalidation, and coordinate with consultants and internal stakeholders. Manage Safety Case and Barrier Management efforts to ensure effective safety controls. Review Management of Change (MOC) requests to maintain plant integrity and safety. Monitor and analyze process safety performance indicators; identify trends and recommend corrective actions. Support the administration and sustainability of L3 Manage Operations Risk (MOR) and L3 Ensure Process Safety processes. Represent the Process Safety & Risk Engineering function in project safety studies and reviews.
Generic Accountabilities Safety, Health & Environment: Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and standards. Qatarization: Support the development of Qatari employees (mandatory for expatriates). Firewall Compliance: Adhere to anti-trust, competition laws, and company firewall policies.
Minimum Requirements on Candidate Profile
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Chemical, Mechanical, or Safety). Experience Minimum 8 years in the oil and gas sector, focusing on process safety, loss prevention, risk management, and technical safety. Proven experience in leading hazard identification reviews (e.g., HAZOP, What-If). Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative risk assessment techniques. Familiarity with safe systems of work and emergency preparedness. Exposure to EPC, commissioning, and startup phases is advantageous.
