Senior Principal Software Engineer - Distributed AI Inference (EMEA)

Red Hat’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) is looking for a highly motivated, self-directed, and hands-on individual to help lead and influence Red Hat’s upstream collaborations and innovation related to emerging AI influenced trends around the future of the software and platforms architectures for running Generative AI applications.

The role is primarily an individual contributor who collaborates closely with other Engineers, Architects, Security Practitioners, Product Managers & Owners, and internal customers. You will need to have a passion for working in open source communities and for developing reference architectures that integrate Red Hat, open source, and partner technologies into a cohesive platform. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.

What You'll Do

Identify, investigate, and evaluate emerging trends and standards.

Formulate and share well-informed opinions and Point of View (POV) analyses to align internally on emerging trends and major changes in AI platform architectures.

Develop and deliver operational Proof of Concept (POC) implementations.

Present findings to internal and external customers, at conferences, and via blogs.

Collaborate with Product Management and Product Engineering to iterate on alignment with the POV.

Participate in and influence the outcomes of specific upstream projects.

Meet with partners, gather feedback, identify actionable items for OCTO/you, and facilitate their resolution.

Work with and quickly adapt to a modern AI technology stack, including (but not limited to) vLLM/inference, llm-d/distributed inference, Agentic AI, AI Agents, LLMs, LLM workflows, MCP, A2A, PyTorch, Kubernetes/OpenShift; Edge Stack exposure/knowledge is a plus (e.g. MLOps at the Edge, Edge Inference Server)

Contribute to architecture/design of platforms and provide input that elevates the platform and user experience 

Lead the development of new features for the platforms (e.g.) Red Hat OpenShift AI using CI/CD best practices 

What You'll Bring

5+ years of experience in MLOps, DevOps, Automation and modern Software Deployment practices

Experience with hosting and scaling LLMs

Practical experience using OpenTelemetry

Comfortable using Gen AI as a productivity enhancement

Strong experience with Git, Terraform, Jenkins or GitHub actions, and common technologies for automation and monitoring

Experience developing and building applications in Kubernetes

Experience with Cloud Computing using at least one of the following Cloud infrastructures: AWS, GCP, Azure, or IBM Cloud

Hands-on programming experience such as Go language, Python, Rust 

Ability to interact comfortably with the other members of a large, geographically dispersed team 

Experience in maintaining an infrastructure and ensuring stability while adding new features
