Position Overview

QineitQ US is looking to hire an experienced Senior Principal Motor Controls Engineer to support QinetiQ's Maritime Solutions group at our Waltham, MA facaility. The Senior Principal Motor Controls Engineer will design, build, tune and troubleshoot end to end motor solutions for crewed / uncrewed, robotic platforms, and maritime systems. This includes component and system level engineering tasks, including the analysis, design, and integration of different electromagnetic systems for both defense and commercial applications.

 

In this role, systems can span between compact underwater propulsion units for UUVs, multi-megawatt vehicle electrification efforts, large maritime platforms, and small to medium UGV robotics applications. QinetiQ’s Maritime Solutions group applies decades of experience developing and delivering leading edge mission ready solutions.  From front line UGVs to ship and submarine mission critical systems, the QinetiQ team prides itself on delivering high-quality products and solutions to market faster.

Responsibilities Work within and/or lead multidisciplinary teams of mechanical, electrical, software, and controls engineers to design and support complex automated systemsAct as the primary contributor to new permanent magnet motor and generator designs driving executionOversee the entire component lifecycle from proposal, concept design, prototype build, and production implementationSet technical objectives, resolve conflicts, and make decisions based on trade studies and requirements.Design and develop new and novel features for existing productsTroubleshoot and root cause challenging component and systems problemsSupport opportunity development providing critical SME guidance Required Qualifications Master of Science degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or Robotic Engineering or equivalent with 8+ years of related experienceExperience developing ground up motor designs with Ansys and Maxwell simulation toolsExperience implementing Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation schemesFamiliarity with standard motor design specifications such as NEMA and IECHigh DC Voltage application experienceDesign for MIL-STD power and EMI requirementsAbility to see programs through from proposal to productionExperience interfacing and collaborating with customersMust be able to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance Preferred Qualifications Prior design work with small motors and/or large high-power motorsExperience with CAD/Analysis programs such as Creo, Unigraphics, MATLAB, ANSYS, Mathcad, or similarPrior mentorship roles especially within an engineering settingClearly communicate, orally and in writing, technical and programmatic information to technical and non-technical individuals Company EEO Statement
