As a Senior Principal, Product Design and Engineering – Automation & Control, you are leading the development of new and enhanced microprocessor‑based electro‑mechanical industrial monitoring and control instrumentation. You are overseeing product architecture, mechanical and pneumatical design, electrical systems, embedded firmware, and software development for Baker Hughes’ valves monitoring and control instrumentation. You are driving technical excellence, ensuring compliance, and enabling high‑performance engineering execution across the full product lifecycle.
As a Senior Principal, Product Design and Engineering – Automation & Control, you will be responsible for:
Developing the mechanical and pneumatical design of next‑generation positioners
Managing a cross‑functional development team across Mechanical, Pneumatical, Embedded Firmware, and Software Engineering
Leading engineering teams for new product introduction (NPI) and enhancement projects from concept through mass‑production readiness
Developing comprehensive schedules, identifying critical paths, and maintaining execution throughout program timelines
Driving rigor in instrumentation development related to safety, compliance, performance, and cost
Ensuring baseline agency certifications are obtained for all new instrument NPI projects
Providing resource management, coaching, and stewardship to strengthen engineering capability and technical expertise
Further developing core capabilities of the NPI engineering team by building training plans, career paths, and high‑performance teams
Driving reliability and system integration throughout all stages of product and technology development
Driving strategic collaboration with Global Supply Chain (Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality) to ensure component quality and cost‑out initiatives
To be successful in this role you will:
Have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Have a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in digital product development within an engineering capacity
Have strong knowledge of positioner mechanical and pneumatical design
Have a solid understanding of overall positioner design principles
Have strong problem‑solving skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Have proven leadership, mentoring capability, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
Have high energy with a results‑driven mindset
Have strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities
Have the ability to work effectively with all levels of engineering and management
