Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Part Time Casual Senior Policy Advisor with a proven track record of work winning and project leadership. The selected candidate will join the Buildings + Places (B+P) Consulting practice which brings together planners, architects, engineers, economists, and advisors to create city-shaping plans and strategies that tackle major policy, design, and social challenges around how cities and regional agencies serve their constituents.

A successful candidate will engage with our public and private sector clients and support multidisciplinary projects including specific plans, community plans, master plans, reinvestment strategies, infrastructure needs assessments and economic development studies. Other key project areas may relate to sustainability, housing policy and affordability, fiscal impact analysis and public finance. The Senior Policy Advisor will join a team of professionals known for analytical rigor, innovative solutions, and steadfast dedication to our clients’ success.

The successful candidate must have a strong interest in developing high quality regulatory and policy planning documents with experience working across multiple metros and markets; experience engaging with public clients including municipal leadership, regulatory authorities, and other agencies; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong project management capabilities; and the desire to work in a fast-paced and collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.

The Senior Policy Advisor would develop relationships and lead projects across the US with a core focus on the US West.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

Prepare materials in support of comprehensive plans, master plans, specific plans, community plans, zoning updates, housing studies, grant applications, corridor plans, and other regulatory and policy planning projectsManage planning projects other studies, including budgeting, staffing, and timelinesOversee the development of high-quality, user-friendly documents, exhibit boards, and engagement materialsOversee demographic, economic, land use, and transportation planning research, including spatial research using GIS, and coordinate interdisciplinary work that supports informed decision makingCoordinate public engagement, workshops, staff reports, and other elements of the public processWork efficiently on multiple projects at a time and prioritizes multiple tasks needed to meet deadlinesProvide support, as needed, to our broader planning, design, economics, and outreach team to ensure smooth execution of projects and continuity of excellent client relationshipsAct as a liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers, and elected and appointed officials in developing neighborhood, area, community, and potentially, regional plansWrite and present formal and technical reports, working papers and correspondenceIdentify community opportunities, issues, and important trends that can be addressed through the development and implementation of strategic policiesCollaborate with other leaders to proactively engage clients and develop new opportunities

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, City Planning, or related degree program plus minimum 10 (ten) years of related experience including two years of leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, City Planning, or related degree program15 (fifteen) years of related experienceExperience working closely and collaboratively with many disciplines including infrastructure experts in transportation, ports, water, environment, and/or energyExperience presenting and developing content for proposals, interacting with clients, having leadership on multiple parallel projects, managing project teams, presenting professional work at meetings, workshops, and industry conferences
