About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Platform Engineer to join our team supporting a client with a mature AWS-based data ecosystem. The client’s architecture includes a central data lake (DataLayer) that ingests and manages data from SAP, CrushFTP, APIs and external vendors. This data lake serves as the enterprise-wide data mart, with Databricks built on top as a self-serve platform for analytics and use-case development. Multiple AI/ML accounts are also leveraged across teams for OLAP, machine learning and visualization workloads.
This role is predominantly hands-on (80%) with a small collaboration component (20%), requiring deep technical expertise in building scalable data engineering and analytics solutions using AWS and Databricks. The ideal candidate will work closely with stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements and deliver optimized, production-grade solutions.
What You’ll Do
Design, develop and optimize scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions using Databricks, AWS and open-source technologies.
Work extensively with Python, PySpark, SQL and Shell scripting to build robust data workflows.
Implement and manage data models, integrations and performance tuning strategies across large datasets while using AWS services.
Collaborate with offshore teams to manage deliverables and ensure alignment with project goals.
Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Ensure code quality, version control and deployment using CI/CD principles (e.g., GitHub Actions).
Maintain data security and compliance using AWS services like IAM, KMS and governance frameworks.
Must-Have Skills
Cloud Engineering: Deep hands-on experience with AWS services including IAM, S3, KMS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, Glue, Step Functions and SageMaker.
Databricks Expertise: Strong working knowledge of Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Z-Order indexing, job orchestration and performance optimization.
Programming & Scripting: Proficiency in Python, PySpark, SQL and Shell scripting.
Data Engineering: Experience in building and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling and handling large-scale data processing.
DevOps Awareness: Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices, especially GitHub Actions and IaC using Terraform.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical deliverables.
Team Collaboration: Experience working with offshore teams and managing shared deliverables.
Good-to-Have Skills
Knowledge of Data Governance Principles and implementation strategies.
AWS Certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect Associate).
Experience with SAP data integration and external vendor data ingestion.
Exposure to AI/ML use-case development and visualization tools.
