Senior Payroll Specialist

Summary of This Role

Processes high-volume payroll for corporate location and multiple subsidiaries on a semi-monthly, biweekly and/or monthly basis. Maintains, processes, and verifies employee time and attendance detail, manually processes miscellaneous payroll adjusting entries, processes garnishment, child support, and tax levy payments. Prepares, processes, and maintains various other payroll-related matters and employee benefits such as 401(k) and flexible spending accounts.

What Part Will You Play?

Administers payroll with a thorough understanding of hours worked, accruals, taxes, garnishments, etc. Ensures accuracy of each pay to employees by calculating earnings and deductions in accordance with established practices and guidelines; reviewing and validating the work of junior payroll administrator(s). Compiles data to process payroll by polling electronic time clocks, preparing computer input forms, and reviewing downloads for completeness and accuracy. Analyzes timekeeping reports for trends and follows up with management to ensure accurate account of hours to be paid.Provides information and prepares reports for various areas of the organization and managers, by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages, for funding, general ledger entry, trend analysis, tax reporting, and audit purposes. Performs data quality reviews in support of internal control requirements.Employs a comprehensive knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax laws, wage regulations, labor laws, and withholding order administration to provide assistance to team members with payroll and timekeeping related questions. Investigates and corrects payroll discrepancies and errors. Actively works to implement best practices and continuous improvement efforts to current processes.Utilizes Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) and timekeeping systems to update team member information, process payroll, gather data, and generate reports. Administers timekeeping system to remain compliant with time labor laws and company policies (I.e., different state overtime rules).Assists and oversees the training/activities of junior payroll administrators to ensure compliance with company and governmental policies and regulations for successful payroll processing.
