Are you an experienced payroll professional with expertise in New Zealand payroll practices? Join PwC as a Senior Payroll Advisor and play a crucial role in delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services for our employees across New Zealand.


In this pivotal position, you will ensure that our payroll operations adhere to all legal, regulatory, and policy guidelines. As a subject matter expert, you will provide valuable guidance on complex payroll matters, collaborate closely with our People & Culture team, and mentor our payroll coordinators to ensure excellence in our payroll processes.


Key responsibilities include the following:

Administer and execute end-to-end processes for monthly payroll cycles ensuring accuracy and timeliness

Conduct payroll reconciliations, variance analysis and reporting

Ensure compliance with New Zealand payroll legislation, including IRD, the Holidays Act, Wages Protection Act and PwC Policies

Prepare payroll reports, dashboards and analytics for key stakeholders including Finance, P&C and wider stakeholders

Support the ongoing enhancement and automation of payroll systems (Chris21 etc) 

Work closely with stakeholders in delivering timely and efficient responses to payroll related questions by employees

Lead and mentor a team of Payroll Coordinators, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities


Ngā pūkenga kei a koe / Skills and experience

Minimum of 5 years' experience in a payroll role, with an emphasis on New Zealand payroll

Comprehensive understanding of NZ payroll legislation and compliance requirements

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Excellent numerical and data entry skills

Strong analytical abilities to interpret and apply payroll-related regulation.

High attention to detail and accuracy

Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills

Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team

Proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement

Take ownership of self-development through on the job learning as well as formal training as required

Experience with chris21 (highly desirable)
