JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Paleontologist will be responsible for managing, planning, and reporting on paleontological construction monitoring and field surveys related to utility-scale energy development projects in California and other western states.

Oversee paleontological monitoring and survey projects
Author technical paleontological and geomorphology reports
Author project proposals and cost estimates
Lead and coordinate project planning and execution
Coordinate with land management agencies and clients
Oversee fossil excavation and salvages
Prepare fossils for curation
Ensure adherence to quality control and assurance
Manage resources and train personnel effectively
Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership
Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s Degree in paleontology, geology, geomorphology, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of paleontology monitoring or surveying experience in California
Minimum of 2 years supervising paleontological projects in California
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Experience with geomorphology
Regional experience with California geology and paleontology
Ability to be permitted as a Principal Investigator on paleontological permits
Prior experience with paleontological mitigation projects including construction monitoring required
Demonstrate proficiency in recognizing various types of fossils, determination of fossil significance, familiarity with collection methods, and advance knowledge of paleontological field technique
Knowledge of basic geology skills such as: Geologic descriptions and measuring stratigraphic sections; recognizing vertebrate, invertebrate, plant, and trace fossils
Knowledge around the use and appropriate application of excavation tools and practices
Experience in personnel management
Ability to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditions and capable of walking/hiking long distances
Competence using global positioning system units, maps, tablets, and submeter accuracy devices
The ability to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle over rough terrain
The ability to perform work duties independently or as part of a team
Clear communicator, highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, and dependable
Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors
PREFERREED EXPERIENCE:
Licensed as a California Professional Geologist
Background in Pleistocene paleontology
Previous experience writing proposals and developing cost estimates
Previously having held permits with federal and state land management agencies in California
Familiarity with ESRI GIS applications (including desktop, ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey123, etc.)
