As a senior optical engineer your passion is the production, control, manipulation, detection, and measurement of light.

Agilent is a multi-national company with research, design, and manufacturing facilities all over the world. In Mulgrave (Australia) Agilent’s Research & Development centre for Optical Spectroscopy maintains and improves our existing and develops new world leading spectroscopic instrumentation for both Atomic and Molecular spectrophotometry. We are currently seeking a Senior Optical Engineer to join our R&D team. You will provide leadership and mentoring to the optical engineers in the team and liaise with and advise the mechanical, electronic, software, firmware engineers and scientists in the R&D group. A practical hands-on outlook and flexibility in small R&D teams is essential. You will also provide advice and support to the production team where required.

As part of R&D project work you will demonstrate and manage the optical engineering process from the definition of requirements and specifications through to design and performance analysis and ultimate tolerance and manufacturability evaluation. You will develop an intimate understanding of Agilent’s current spectroscopic instrument portfolio and their various applications and end markets. Working alongside the marketing team you will develop novel solutions to meet customer needs and markets.
