Senior Nuclear Fuel Packaging Design Engineer (Remote Eligible, U.S.)
Job Description SummaryThe Nuclear Fuel Packaging Design Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design and analysis of nuclear fuel products and packaging. This position is part of the team responsible for developing and designing fuel bundle technologies and their packaging for application in nuclear reactors.
In this role, the Nuclear Fuel Packaging Design Engineer will collaborate with sourcing, fabrication and quality, fuel experts, and regulatory affairs to assure product performs within licensed and GNF performance expectations.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

Lead and develop new fuel products & design modifications to improve existing productsServe as the subject matter expert on shipping and packaging of nuclear materials and fuel assembliesSupport nuclear regulatory review and evaluation. Ensure regulatory compliance of all packaging, both domestic and internationalUtilize the knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, vibration analysis, heat transfer, finite element analysis, statistics and drafting practices for design and justification of nuclear packaging applicationsAddress emergent customer and manufacturing issuesDesign test procedures and perform testing to address component and assembly adequacyProvide well written, well organized documented engineering analyses to assure design adequacyPerform design reviews and production readiness reviewsReview and disposition product non-conformancesDevelop procedures and work to improve engineering productivityPrepare and present technical data to internal and external customersAssist and provide support to the team technical leader and functional manager to plan, status and execute projectsPerform work with high quality in accordance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.Effectively communicate and collaborate activities with other team members on technical issues

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or UniversityMinimum 10 years of relevant engineering experienceMinimum 5 years of nuclear fuel packaging design, analysis, or licensing experience

Eligibility Requirements:

The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.

Desired Characteristics:

Master’s Degree or greater in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or UniversityPrior nuclear packaging experienceKnowledge of Part 71 licensing requirementsExperience in 3D CAD design, LS-DYNA and ANSYSExperience with applicable industry standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, BWRVIP)Proven track record of problem-solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentationStrong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignmentsA self-starter willing to take initiativesAbility to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available informationStrong customer focus and clear understanding of nuclear industries

The base pay range for this position is $112,000-160,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 10/10/2025.

 

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
