Senior Mobile Engineer / Architect - Mobile SDK Development (Hybrid - Acton, MA or San Diego, CA)
About the Role

We're looking for an exceptional Senior Mobile Engineer / Architect to lead the design and development of cutting-edge mobile SDKs for medical device applications. In this high-impact role, you'll architect secure, scalable mobile solutions that integrate with enterprise identity systems (Okta), API platforms (MuleSoft), and cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure) — all within a regulated healthcare environment.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position where you'll shape the mobile architecture that enables healthcare providers to deliver better patient outcomes through innovative medical device technology.

What You'll Do

SDK Architecture & Development

Design, build, and maintain mobile SDKs for iOS and Android that serve as the foundation for medical device applications

Create modular, reusable SDK frameworks that ensure scalability, maintainability, and compliance with FDA and HIPAA regulations

Establish SDK best practices, documentation standards, and developer experience guidelines

API & Cloud Integration

Architect and implement seamless integrations with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, RESTful APIs, and/or GraphQL services

Design API-led connectivity patterns working closely with backend and integration teams

Leverage AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, S3) or Azure (App Services, Function Apps, API Management) for cloud-native solutions

Security & Identity Management

Implement robust authentication and authorization using Okta (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT)

Ensure end-to-end security including data encryption at rest and in transit, secure credential storage, and certificate pinning

Integrate secure communication protocols for medical device connectivity (Bluetooth, BLE, etc.)

Technical Leadership

Lead architecture reviews, technical design sessions, and code reviews

Mentor and guide mobile engineers in best practices, design patterns, and emerging technologies

Champion quality through automated testing strategies (unit, integration, UI, and end-to-end testing)

Drive CI/CD pipeline implementation using GitHub Actions, Fastlane, or similar tools

Required Qualifications

Experience

7+ years of professional mobile development experience (iOS and/or Android)

3+ years in SDK architecture, API integration, or platform engineering

Proven track record building and shipping production SDKs or complex mobile applications in regulated environments

Mobile Development Expertise

Expert-level proficiency in Swift (iOS) or Kotlin/Java (Android)

Deep understanding of mobile architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, Repository pattern)

Strong knowledge of mobile security, data persistence, background processing, and performance optimization

Integration & API Experience

Hands-on experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (API design, DataWeave transformations, connectors)

Proficiency with RESTful API design principles, API versioning, and API documentation

Experience with API testing tools (Postman, Insomnia) and API security standards

Cloud Platform Knowledge

Working experience with AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, CloudWatch, S3, IAM) OR Azure (App Services, Function Apps, API Management, Azure AD)

Understanding of serverless architectures and cloud-native application patterns

Identity & Security

Demonstrated experience integrating Okta or similar enterprise identity providers

Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, SAML

Knowledge of mobile security best practices: secure storage (Keychain/KeyStore), certificate pinning, ProGuard/R8, encryption libraries

Healthcare/Medical Device Domain

Experience working in regulated industries (medical device, healthcare, fintech)

Understanding of compliance requirements (HIPAA, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, MDR/IVDR preferred)

DevOps & Engineering Practices

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated build and deployment processes

Proficiency with Git, version control workflows, and code review practices

Strong foundation in Agile/Scrum methodologies and iterative development

Preferred Qualifications

Cross-platform frameworks: Experience with Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM), or React Native

Advanced architecture patterns: Event-driven architecture, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), microservices, CQRS

Infrastructure as Code: Familiarity with Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep

Container orchestration: Kubernetes, Docker, AWS ECS/EKS, Azure AKS

Regulatory expertise: Deep knowledge of FDA compliance (510(k), Design Controls), HIPAA Security Rule, cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, IEC 62304)

Medical device protocols: Bluetooth Medical Device Profile, HL7 FHIR, DICOM

Additional skills: GraphQL, WebSocket, gRPC, Protocol Buffers

What Makes You Stand Out

You've published SDKs used by external developers or partner organizations

You have contributions to open-source mobile projects or technical blog posts

You've led mobile architecture transformations or major platform migrations

You're passionate about developer experience and creating intuitive APIs

You have excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

You bring leadership experience mentoring engineers and fostering collaborative team environments
