This is a full-time, exempt-level position located on site at ADM's complex in Decatur, IL.
Job Summary:
The Senior Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and management of piping systems and pressure vessels for various projects, and for the development and review of company standards and specifications.
This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, piping design, and project management. The successful candidate will lead project teams, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, and ensure that all project requirements are met on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of piping systems for various industrial projectsPerform detailed engineering calculations and analysis to ensure the integrity and safety of piping systems and pressure vesselsDevelop and review piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), isometric drawings, and other technical documentationCoordinate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and clients to ensure seamless project executionConduct site visits and inspections to assess project progress and compliance with design specificationsPrepare project schedules, budgets, and resource plansProvide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design team members, and support to help them grow in their rolesEnsure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulationsIdentify and mitigate potential project risks and issuesStay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in piping design and mechanical engineeringWork closely with the MPP (Mechanical, Process, Piping) department manager or Project Manager to ensure project alignment, resource allocation, and successful project deliveryAssist with maintaining a lessons learned register to capture insights and improvements from completed projectsManage standards development within the department to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with industry best practices
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related fieldCurrent Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 2 years of employment Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering Proven experience in leading and managing engineering projects from concept to completionProficiency in using engineering design software such as AutoCAD, FEA programs PIPE-FLOW, Codeware Inspect (vessel design), and AutoPipe (pipe stress analysis)Significant experience using industry standards and codes (e.g., ASME, ANSI, API, PIP)Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skillsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s or other advanced degree is a plusSignificant experience with ASME piping and vessel designEngineering experience with heat transfer and fluid dynamicsPast experience as a contributing member of an industrial standards steering committee is preferredDeep knowledge of pressure piping, and piping components such as flanges, fittings, valves, expansion joints, regulators
