Senior Mechanical Designer

What you'll do As a senior mechanical designer, you will support various commercial and government space projects. Those projects span LEO to GEO satellites. You will be a vital part of a team that designs, develops, builds, and tests payloads and satellites. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and assembly integration & test engineers. In your role you will create and maintain payload and satellite layouts in CAD, document unit interfaces, and support build and test. The day-to-day Day to day work encompasses evaluating payload and satellite packaging requirements, generating CAD to place units and subsystems, creation and maintenance of drawings including ICDs, preparation and participation in design reviews, technical interfaces with vendors, subcontractors and customers, and support build and test. What you'll need 15+ years experience in satellite layout and design. Knowledge of satellite subsystems, functions, interfaces, structure design and manufacturing, and design for space environments. 3D CAD experience creating parts and assemblies using SolidWorks and/or Creo. GD&T experience. Experience working as part of a diverse team of multiple disciplines. Ability to create specifications, requirements, and presentations. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point. Strong communication skills – both verbal and written. U.S. Citizenship Required. Ability to effectively communicate with vendors and customers. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet schedule. Salary range $137,000.00 - $216,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $170,500.00- $255,500.00/ annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
