Our Commercial and New Payment Flows (“CNPF”) organization is making payments smarter, businesses stronger with our commercial cards, working capital, and money movement solutions.
We are seeking a strategic and experienced legal leader to serve as Senior Managing Counsel, Americas Lead for our CNPF business. This role will oversee legal support for regional product and sales teams for Corporate Solutions, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Transfer Solutions across the Americas region, driving legal strategy, managing risk, and enabling innovation and growth.
Role
This full-time role will report to the Assistant General Counsel for CNPF Regions & Verticals and will be a key member of the global CNPF legal leadership team. The successful candidate will lead a team of lawyers and provide counsel to senior business leaders across the Americas.
The role requires deep expertise in commercial transactions, product development, regulatory compliance, and team leadership in the financial services or technology sectors.
The key responsibilities for the role include:
•\tLead and manage a high-performing legal team supporting Corporate Solutions, SME, and Transfer Solutions across the Americas.
•\tServe as the primary legal advisor to regional business leadership on legal, regulatory, and strategic matters.
•\tServe as a senior legal leader within the CNPF legal team, helping shape legal strategy, team operations, and cross-vertical collaboration across the broader Law department.
•\tDraft, review and negotiate a wide range of complex agreements, including technology, customer, vendor, and partnership contracts.
•\tPartner with product, technology, sales, franchise, marketing, and other teams to launch and scale innovative products that meet our customers’ rapidly changing needs.
•\tCollaborate with in-house and external specialists (including regulatory, compliance, data privacy, and intellectual property counsel) to identify and mitigate risks.
•\tAlign legal resources with business priorities to maximize impact, including coordination with shared services and external counsel.
•\tDrive process improvements and legal transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency and ease of doing business.
•\tEnsure compliance with Mastercard’s policies and procedures and provide training to the business on legal processes, risks, and regulatory developments.
•\tCoach and mentor team members, while acting as a resource for other Law department colleagues.
All About You
•\tQualified lawyer with solid academic and training background, licensed to practice in the US.
•\t10+ years of legal work experience, including significant in-house experience in financial services or technology.
•\tPeople management experience and skilled in leading, coaching and developing talent.
•\tStrong commercial and transactional experience, including complex technology and financial services agreements.
•\tAbility to grasp complex new business concepts and to implement creative approaches to problems while identifying and balancing risks with results.
•\tStrong working knowledge of data privacy and intellectual property issues.
•\tFamiliarity with laws and regulations in the commercial banking and payments space will be considered favorably.
•\tTeam player and great attitude and willingness to take on a variety of responsibilities and roles that support the team, department and company.
•\tSelf-starter and ability to work independently.
•\tSolution-orientated and able to work flexibly, under pressure, and with tight deadlines.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
