GEICO is seeking a Senior Manager of Legislative and Regulatory Policy to oversee development of insurance regulatory and legislative policies at the state and national levels. This government relations role entails monitoring and evaluating regulatory and legislative proposals, as well as collaborating with internal clients to formulate enterprise-wide public policy positions. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with demonstrated success driving internal policy and collaborating with the Government Relations team to execute on those policies externally. This position reports to the Head of Government & Regulatory Affairs.
What You’ll Do:
Regulatory & Legislative Analysis: Monitor and evaluate impactful insurance regulatory/ legislative proposals, working in close collaboration with relevant Government & Regulatory Affairs colleagues.
Policy Development: Lead the development of enterprise-wide public policy positions by partnering with Government & Regulatory Affairs colleagues, internal clients, and, when appropriate, external stakeholders to jointly develop and align policy initiatives; draft policy position statements, white papers, and related materials.
Strategic Monitoring & Reporting: Identify emerging regulatory and legislative trends and communicate insights and risks to the Government & Regulatory Affairs team, business units, and senior management to inform enterprise-wide strategy.
Coalition Building: Assist the Government Relations team with strategic execution of GEICO’s public priority positions, including coalition building and managing external resources.
Additional Duties: Assume other regulatory or legislative responsibilities as priorities evolve.
Basic Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction highly preferred.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in insurance regulation, regulatory law, or related public policy fields, preferably within property and casualty insurance.
Proven experience, with a track record of successfully developing and implementing regulatory and legislative strategies.
Deep knowledge of U.S. insurance regulatory systems, including state insurance departments and the NAIC.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory developments into actionable business strategies.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working within cross-functional teams.
Ability to balance independent legal judgment with teamwork and enterprise-wide policy development processes.
Legal system abuse, claims operations, personal/commercial P&C insurance
Location: Hybrid - Working 3+ days onsite out of our Chevy Chase, MD office
Annual Salary
$148,625.00 - $260,350.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
