American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the leading payment card issuer for corporations and small businesses with products and services to help them run and grow their business. Within GCS, the GCS Product Development and Enterprise Solutions team leads product development on a robust portfolio of products and capabilities for our small business and corporate customers. The team also leads product design and research across GCS as well as business development initiatives to support our banking scale.

How will you make an impact in this role?

As a Senior Manager of Platform Modernization Strategy on the GCS Core Services team, you will assess and recommend modernization approaches for core platforms supporting corporate products for both Global & Large and Middle Market customers. You will partner closely with engineering, architecture, product, risk, and business leaders to identify pain points, gaps, and risks and define pragmatic modernization roadmaps that balance business value, risk, and delivery feasibility.

This role is ideal for a strategic leader with strong technical fluency, program-level thinking, and the ability to influence across a highly matrixed organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Assess core platforms to identify pain points, scalability constraints, compliance risks, and modernization opportunities

Define and recommend modernization strategies aligned to business priorities and customer impact

Develop sequenced, multi-year modernization roadmaps that balance speed, risk, and long-term sustainability

Partner with engineering, architecture, product, and business teams to align on modernization direction and execution approach

Build strong business cases for modernization strategies to prioritize investment

Establish success metrics and track value realization related to platform modernization investments

Communicate strategy, progress, and key decisions to executive stakeholders and cross-functional partners

Support change management efforts to enable adoption of modern platforms and ways of working

Qualifications:

4+ years of experience in technology strategy, technical product development, platform engineering, architecture, or large-scale transformation roles

Strong experience assessing and modernizing legacy platforms in complex enterprise environments

Demonstrated ability to lead and influence large, cross-functional initiatives without direct authority

Strong working knowledge of cloud platforms, modern application architectures (APIs, microservices), and DevOps practices

Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts and tradeoffs clearly to senior, non-technical audiences

Experience identifying and managing technology, operational, and regulatory risk

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries

Experience supporting platforms that serve large, complex enterprise customers

Demonstrated success leading multi-year modernization or transformation programs

Strong change-management mindset with experience evolving teams and operating models

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical or related field

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually + bonus + benefits
