Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives - Supply Chain & Energy

The Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives will be a key member of GM Global Public Policy’s Strategic Initiatives team, which is responsible for identifying and assessing growth opportunities, emerging risks, and long-term trends; informing and strengthening advocacy; and driving integration of enterprise and policy priorities.  Reporting to the Executive Director of Global Strategic Initiatives, the Senior Manager will be responsible for ensuring that GM’s policy advocacy worldwide aligns with critical business priorities, developing and implementing multi-faceted campaign strategies to advance GM’s policy priorities and expand GM’s network of policy influencers. The Senior Manager will focus on core automotive business issues, advocacy, and engagement, particularly on critical minerals, batteries, and energy projects as well as supporting GM’s overarching resiliency strategy and investments. The role requires a highly organized self-starter that possesses proven analytical and communications skills, a successful track record of collaboration, a strong stakeholder network, and a strategic, results-driven approach.
 

Responsibilities

Campaign Management:

Develop, execute, and manage multi-faceted advocacy campaign strategies that enable business opportunities for GM in the U.S. and markets worldwide

Integrate and align GM enterprise activities and strategic priorities across a range of workstreams and functions with relevant policy advocacy and engagement efforts

Support and inform advocacy and engagement efforts on supply chain and core operational issues, policies, and their impacts on automotive value chains (e.g., critical minerals, rare earths, batteries, semiconductors, near-shoring and on-shoring, resilience)

Issues Management:

Develop and manage a portfolio of supply chain (e.g., critical minerals, rare earths, batteries, semiconductors) issues with a focus on industrial policy and U.S. competitiveness

Drive and align efforts with internal leadership and subject matter experts, including Global Public Policy teams, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Corporate Development, Communications, Finance, Legal, and other key business functions

Stakeholder Engagement:

Strengthen third-party and stakeholder relationships and platforms that enhance the advocacy efforts by GM’s Global Public Policy team and drive thought leadership and positioning for GM

 

Qualifications

10+ years of professional experience and bachelor’s degree or 7+ years of professional experience with an advanced degree in public affairs, business, government, communications, or a related field

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels and across functions, using both technical and non-technical verbiage

Policy stakeholder network and substantive experience in working with a broad range of government officials and policy influencers in the U.S. and international markets

Understanding of policy issues of interest to the auto industry (e.g., resilience, trade, geopolitics, connected vehicles and transportation technologies and services, manufacturing and supply chains)

Excellent project management skills with a successful and measurable project delivery record; capable of setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and managing projects

Proven history of successful cross-functional collaboration in fast paced work environments

Based in Washington, D.C., or willing to relocate


This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Washington DC Location three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
