Position Summary
We are hiring two Engineering Senior Manager positions to lead critical components of our Merch Tech organization. Each role will own delivery, architecture, and operational health of technology platforms that power the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of our supply chain. Whether orchestrating thousands of purchase orders or enabling item-level traceability and B2B partner integrations, these managers will lead high-performing engineering teams, drive technical excellence, and collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders.

Your Role
As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering at Walmart, you'll lead high-impact engineering teams responsible for building scalable, resilient, and customer-centric platforms and applications. You will work in close collaboration with product, program, and business stakeholders to deliver world-class solutions that power Walmart’s enterprise systems.
What You’ll Do
Technical Leadership
· Provide guidance on system architecture, technical designs, drive architecture decisions and engineering best practices in code quality, system design, observability and operational excellence.
· Partner with principal engineers and architects to guide long-term platform and infrastructure evolution.
· Drive continuous improvement in code quality, test coverage, deployment pipelines, and system reliability.
· Own the delivery and reliability of platforms under your scope, ensuring high availability, observability, and performance.
· Drive architecture decisions and ensure best practices in code quality, system design, observability, and operational excellence.
· Advocate and implement CI/CD, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices.
Team Leadership & Development
· Lead and grow a high-performing team of software engineers by fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
· Set performance standards, establish and track clear performance objectives and promote engineering growth through hands-on mentorship, coaching, feedback and career development for team members.
· Foster an inclusive, high-accountability culture of ownership, innovation, technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Strategic and Operational Execution
· Lead engineering strategy, roadmap execution, and platform reliability for core services
· Translate business strategy into an executable technical roadmap in collaboration with product and architects
· Drive delivery of large-scale projects and programs, ensuring timely and high-quality execution.
· Manage prioritization and resource allocation across competing initiatives.
· Champion engineering best practices in design, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
· Define and report key engineering metrics, and ensure auditability, observability, and resiliency are built into all platforms.
· Manage team execution including sprint planning, backlog grooming, release readiness, and incident response.
Cross-functional Collaboration
· Collaborate with Product, Program, Architecture, Business and Operations teams to align on business priorities, technical feasibility, and execution timelines.
· Influence and negotiate technical decisions that balance speed, scale, and business outcomes.
· Represent engineering in forums and contribute to planning, budgeting, and resourcing.
· Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term platform reliability improvements
You’ll Thrive in This Role If You Have
· A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related discipline.
· 8+ years of experience in software development with 3+ years managing engineering teams.
· Demonstrated experience leading large-scale software projects from inception through production.
· Experience designing and operating large-scale systems in a cloud-native, microservices-based environment
· Strong technical background in backend systems, APIs, distributed data systems, microservices, or frontend frameworks.
· Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
· A passion for continuous improvement, inclusivity, and operational excellence.
· Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and influence without authority across orgs.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
