THE ROLE
The Manager Scientific & External Engagement is responsible for developing and executing scientific engagement strategies tailored to the Taiwan market. The role aims to build understanding and acceptance of PMI’s Smoke‑Free Product (SFP) science and support the creation of an appropriate regulatory environment for Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) and SFPs.
You will:
Lead internal and external scientific engagement and communication activities to strengthen understanding of the science behind THR and SFPs across diverse audiences.Manage and deepen relationships with key opinion leaders and stakeholders — including scientific and medical communities, governmental bodies and regulators.Build a network of informed stakeholders who can engage in evidence‑based conversations on harm reduction and advocate for science‑based policy.Drive high‑impact engagement projects to enhance credibility and confidence in THR and Smoke‑Free Products.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and implement multi‑year outreach strategies that support both corporate and scientific engagement goals, including informing public health policies, increasing understanding within scientific and medical communities, and supporting the creation of appropriate regulatory frameworks in Taiwan.Provide scientific engagement education and coaching to internal teams, ensuring they understand PMI Science and can communicate the science behind our smoke‑free products accurately and confidently.Develop, maintain and continuously evaluate relationships with key opinion leaders, scientific communities and relevant organizations. Execute meaningful programs and projects that build acceptance of THR and Smoke‑Free Products.Identify strategic scientific networking opportunities (conferences, events, publications) in collaboration with R&D scientists and market External Affairs/Communications teams.Engage, network and build coalitions in support of THR and an appropriate SFP regulatory environment in Taiwan.Analyze insights gathered through scientific engagements and adjust plans as needed.Secure appropriate scientific spokesperson support for:Engagement with government officials and regulators on scientific matters and regulatory submissions.Discussions related to product surveillance or adverse event reporting.Communication with scientific and general media.Identify gaps in local scientific evidence and coordinate with KOLs to improve scientific confidence in THR and SFPs.Facilitate locally initiated research, review literature or studies, and ensure scientific accuracy in external‑facing materials.Support the development of scientific engagement tools and content that enhance understanding of PMI Science.QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate or graduate degree in a scientific discipline, public health policy, or science communications.Significant experience in highly regulated industries such as tobacco, pharmaceutical, medical/science/technology, or industries entering new regulatory environments — ideally in Regulatory Affairs or Government Affairs.Experience working within government or government‑related agencies is preferred.Proven experience leading cross‑functional projects with senior stakeholders across R&D, Legal, Corporate/Regulatory Affairs, Communications, Sales, Marketing, Planning or Operations.International experience, preferably with multinational companies.Public speaking and/or media engagement experience is a strong advantage.Fluency in written and spoken Chinese and English.WHAT WE OFFER
