Senior Manager, Risk Management – Policy and Standards

What is the opportunity? 

Develop a strategy and implementation execution for RBC Insurance to meet all of the requirements in each of the Operational Risk Policies/Standards Create Shared Services for Procedures and document associated controls in Archer.  

What will you do? 

• Develop an approach to assess existing practices against all requirements within the Enterprise Standard for Operational Risk standards for Operational Risk (e.g., scenario analysis, enterprise issue management, internal control management, etc.),

• Document an action plan for creation and implementation for Shared Services policies and procedures.

• Based on the current state assessment, develop an Insurance strategy to comply with all requirements in the Enterprise Standard for all associated Standards, exploring options in terms of roles and responsibilities; timelines; governance practices including procedures, controls and control testing; committees; communication plan

• Based on the implementation plan, lead the development and implementation of all required practices, including developing/updating all associated Procedures, embedding responsibilities across the different stakeholder groups, establishing and documenting controls (in Archer) to assess design and ongoing operating effectiveness of processes

• At the end of the secondment, determine if any self-identified issues are to be raised where there are known gaps in complying with any associated standards; and with the Director, Risk Management – Sales and Product to determine a transition approach, including for any incomplete work items

What will you need to succeed? 

Must Have:

•At least 5 to 10 years in a financial services organization

•A solid understanding of risk management

•Experience developing policies and procedures in a regulatory environment

•Risk management experience in at least one of: operational risk, third party risk, business continuity management, information technology risk

•A strong knowledge of insurance business

Nice to Have:

• Experience leading the development of a strategy/program in risk or regulatory

• University graduate, preferred

• Good communication, facilitation and influence skills

• Strong problem solving, analytical, research and qualitative analysis skills

• Able to take a high level strategic view of business and assess practices, develop recommendations

• Work independently and as a team player in a fast paced environment, with a fixed time horizon
