Chicago-based role; must live in the greater Chicago area to work a hybrid schedule with roughly 2 days per week in the corporate HQ office, with flexibility.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Manager, Portfolio Shop Operations, oversees the administration of railcar repair and maintenance on a fleet of 120,000 railcars for UTLX/Procor. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy of repair charges and managing third-party shop approvals, while cultivating strong shop relationships to support operational efficiency and financial performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing team, fostering a culture of engagement and continuous improvement.Drive cost reduction and financial performance through strategic analysis and recommendations.Manage contractual relationships with key repair shop vendors ensuring compliance and value optimization.Implement and enforce robust controls to ensure timely approval and accuracy of repair charges.Support the design and deployment of next-generation technology.Monitor trends, conduct analyses, and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.Optimize repair cycle times and the performance of the shop network.Lead repair vs. scrap determinations based on established criteria.Own audit process and approval of third-party shop network.Collaborate with Sales to resolve customer claims promptly and effectively.Conduct periodic network audits to identify billing inconsistencies and coordinate resolutions.Continually seeks to identify and drive productivity initiatives and to improve the customer, supplier and/or employee experience.Analyze and report on actual vs. budgeted results.SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS
Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide teams through change.Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Detail-oriented with strong time management and multitasking capabilities.Knowledge of AAR billing practices, tank car components, and regulatory requirements.Equipment leasing experience is a plus.Ability to travel up to 15% (US/Canada, shops, industry events, special meetings)EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
