Purpose:
This role assists the Director & Head, International Tax Planning and Consulting in international tax consulting matters for International Banking, International Wealth, Global Banking and Markets, and Treasury, as well as in international tax planning activities.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Apply developed knowledge of the Canadian Foreign Affiliate Rules in the Income Tax Act (Canada) to transactions of Scotiabank. Apply developed knowledge of Global Minimum Tax to transactions of Scotiabank. Maintain a working knowledge of tax laws of foreign jurisdictions in which Scotiabank operates. Monitoring impact of major legislative changes in foreign jurisdictions and monitoring changes in the foreign operations of the Bank to ensure tax effectiveness. Assist subsidiaries and business lines in understanding and complying with foreign jurisdictions tax rules as modified by tax treaties as appropriate, for cross-border transactions such as dividends, interest, directors’ fees, guarantee fees, management fees that arise between various foreign countries. Rates of withholding tax and specific "Limitation on Benefits" rules are relevant to this task. Take a lead role in Canadian international tax consulting matters for International Banking, Global Wealth Management, Global Banking and Markets, and Treasury. Reviewing transactions affecting the foreign jurisdictions in which the Bank operates and advise on the tax considerations and implications in respect thereof. Liaising with staff in other areas of the Bank or its subsidiaries, as well as with external advisors, regarding tax information and/or advice with respect to various transactions as required. Organize and implementing international projects which manages the global effective tax rate. Provide instruction and guidance to various team members within Scotiabank on consulting and planning matters.
