Role Summary

The Finance Senior Manager for the Pharma Analytics Business Unit is the primary strategic finance partner on the BU leadership team. This role owns financial planning, forecasting, analytics, and business decision support for the Pharma Analytics business, serving global biopharma customers. The senior manager will drive financial rigor, elevate performance insights, and strengthen operating execution across the business. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Finance for the Purification & Pharma Analytics (PPA) business.

Key Responsibilities

Business Partnership & Strategic Support

Serve as the primary finance partner to BU leadership, offering clear, data-driven guidance on revenue performance, margin optimization, and investment allocation.Support long-range planning, annual operating plan, and monthly/quarterly outlooks; articulate drivers, risks, and opportunities with confidence and accuracy.Challenge assumptions constructively, pushing for disciplined decision-making and operational accountability.Leverage ChatGPT and AI-assisted analysis to accelerate insight generation, scenario testing, and communication clarity across finance and cross-functional partners.

Financial Management & Performance Analytics

Own P&L management and deep-dive financial analytics across product lines, regions, and channels.Lead monthly business reviews, synthesizing financial insights into succinct, actionable narratives.Drive standardization and speed in reporting, forecasting, and KPI tracking.Elevate gross margin analysis, product mix understanding, and pricing/volume/margin decomposition.Build and maintain Power BI dashboards that improve visibility, self-service reporting, and proactive performance management.

Operational Execution

Strengthen forecasting processes by improving data quality, cadence, and cross-functional alignment with Commercial, Operations, Product Management and R&D.Partner with Supply Chain and Operations Finance to understand COGS, manufacturing variances, and inventory implications.Improve financial controls and support audit, compliance, and SOX requirements.

Leadership & Collaboration

Manage and develop a financial analyst in support of total PPA FP&A consolidations.Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.Collaborate across Thermo Fisher’s matrix to align business unit finance with divisional and group objectives.Champion adoption of Power BI, GenAI, and modern analytics practices within the PPA finance team.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.7–10+ years of progressive finance experience, ideally within life sciences, tools, diagnostics, or manufacturing environments.Strong technical skills in financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis.Clear communicator who can simplify complexity and influence senior stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed organization with shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

MBA, CPA, or CMA.Experience supporting product-driven businesses with complex portfolios.Familiarity with Hyperion/Oracle and financial consolidation/reporting tools.Hands-on experience using AI/GenAI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) for analytics, automation, or enhanced business communication.Track record of implementing process upgrades or analytics improvements.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $141,800.00–$195,000.00.
