As a Sr Staff Engineer in Manufacturing Engineering at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will contribute to complex technical projects that support our mission of making the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. You will work with advanced automation, process control systems, and manufacturing equipment while providing innovative solutions for both internal operations and external clients. In this role, you will guide cross-functional teams in designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes, with responsibilities spanning from initial concept through validation and handover.
Working closely with stakeholders across R&D, Quality, Operations, and external partners, you will advance technical excellence in areas such as process automation, equipment installation, facility upgrades, and manufacturing support. You will support the development of junior engineers while providing technical guidance to resolve complex hardware, software, and process challenges. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining system readiness, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with cGMP regulations.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Advanced Degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing or related regulated industry
• Preferred Fields of Study: Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, or related field)
• Expertise in automation systems and control platforms (e.g., Rockwell FactoryTalk, AB PLCs, DeltaV)
• Strong project management skills with ability to guide complex, large-scale initiatives
• Experience with cGMP regulations and manufacturing compliance requirements
• Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements and technical solutions
• Proficiency in engineering documentation (URS, FRS, IOQ, validation protocols)
• Experience with capital project planning, execution, and financial management
• Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills
• Effective cross-functional team coordination and stakeholder management
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in cleanroom environments and various manufacturing conditions
• Available for occasional travel and on-call support as needed
• Proficiency with engineering software tools (AutoCAD, MS Project, Visio)
• Experience with data integrity principles and audit compliance
• Demonstrated ability to develop and guide others
