Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

OVERVIEW

Versant International requires an experienced mid level lawyer to provide legal support for the EMEA regions for the CNBC International advertising team, the commercial content production business, and the CNBC International EMEA channel distribution team. The candidate would have experience within TMT practice groups and have excellent drafting skills and a commercial outlook.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate would work closely with the commercial teams in London to maximise revenue and reach for Versant International news brands with a particular focus on CNBC International which is the number one business and financial news channel. Specific responsibilities are:

Legal support to CNBC International in-house sales function. Drafting, reviewing and negotiating advertising terms and conditions with agencies and advertisers, including, insertion orders, advertising terms (with special focus on data security, usage, and measurement), custom advertising, and sponsorship, custom content, brand consultation, data and events agreementsCounsel about risks associated with engaging in a variety of digital and marketing activities and the collection and use of dataPreparation of agreements with vendors and production companies involved in creation of commercial content for advertisers including VOD and eventsNegotiation of channel distribution agreements for the CNBC Europe and UK channel feeds with a range of MVPDs across broadcast, cable and IP deliveryProvision of legal and strategic advice to the distribution teamAdvice to the business on regulatory changes affecting content distribution across the UK and EMEA regionEngaging and drafting third-party rep agreements for sales and channel work in EMEADevelop best legal and contractual practices in connection with a rapidly changing and expanding business – suggest ways to use technology to make contracting more efficient

Qualifications

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS         

Strong legal experience in media distribution and advertising regulationIdeally private practice or strong in-house team within news or broadcasting sectorExperience advising on digital advertising and/or working with new media platformsSpecialized in UK and/or EU sales and commercial lawSignificant experience in negotiating and drafting contracts and a variety of terms and conditionsCapable of providing practical legal advice to members of business team at all levels and working with legal teams across functions (data privacy, employment, IP, compliance, etc.)Strong work ethicGood natured, team playerStrong academic record from top tier law schoolStrong written and oral presentation skillsAbility to multi-task successfully, and to work both independently and collegially as part of a team in a fast-paced environmentQualified lawyer in good standingExtensive experience in advertising, IP, entertainment, corporate transactional or relevant litigation experience at a law firm and/or corporate law departmentExperience with data privacy, media regulation and ad tech is also requiredMust be willing to work in London, United KingdomMust have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United Kingdom
