As a Senior Lead Software Engineer - Precious Metals / Front Office / Athena at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Banking - Precious Metals and Agriculture - Commodities Tech team, you will be an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Job responsibilities
Works closely with Trading, Quantitative Research, Sales and Middle Office teams to deliver quality code in a fast paced environmentActs as the regional lead for the Precious Metals and Agricultural products team supporting the regional needs of the precious metals business while remaining aligned with the global team and global priorities. Acts as the direct manager for the NYC based software engineering team, helping drive business results through the teamRegularly provides technical guidance and direction to support the business and its technical teams, contractors, and vendorsDevelops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by othersDrives decisions that influence the product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processesPromotes and drives cross-functional collaboration with Core Technology teams and Business teams to deliver innovative, scalable solutions Actively contributes to the engineering community as an advocate of firmwide frameworks, tools, and practices of the Software Development Life CycleInfluences peers and project decision-makers to consider the use and application of leading-edge technologiesAdds to the team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience. In addition, 2+ years of experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertiseDegree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Math or equivalent training and relevant experienceHands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stabilityExperience in performant, large-scale system development in an object-oriented or functional language such as Python, Java, etc.Advanced knowledge of software applications and technical processes with considerable in-depth knowledge in one or more technical disciplines (e.g., cloud, object-oriented programming, full stack development - end to end, quantitative finance, etc.)Ability to tackle design and functionality problems independently with little to no oversightMust have a strong understanding of end-to-end business processesEnthusiastic to keep learning and growing, in technical aptitude and business understandingPrevious software engineering team management experiencePreferred qualifications, capabilities, and skillsSoftware development experience in commodities, finance, or investment banking preferred, or willingness to rapidly learn the business domainWillingness to become proficient and develop in Python if not already a primary languageAbility to collaborate with other technology teams to deliver end to end solutions to the business in a constantly changing environmentExcellent interpersonal skills to interact confidently and credibly with business users, to understand and agree business requirements and their prioritization
