What you'll be doing

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Investment Analyst to join our Private Equity and Venture Capital Team. You will be responsible for conducting extensive qualitative and quantitative due diligence on private equity and venture capital managers and making recommendations. The ideal candidate will also have extensive experience in underwriting co- investments, direct investments and/or secondary transactions. Other responsibilities include developing new investment themes, sourcing and analyzing new strategies, managing and monitoring incumbent managers, and managing fund of funds and custom portfolios. We strongly value continuous improvement and innovation in our research process to target superior performance. We serve in a fiduciary capacity for our clients by working closely with our relationship management and business development teams to provide sound investment management and advisory services. Furthermore, an entrepreneurial approach will be strongly encouraged.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both portfolio management and investment execution while serving as a subject matter expert across the firm.

How you'll succeed 

Investment Sourcing & Diligence

Conduct extensive qualitative and quantitative due diligence on existing investment strategies and make recommendations on external managers.

Lead or support direct and syndicated co-investment and secondary transaction underwriting.

Develop and implement different methodologies for managing and analyzing investment portfolios.

Source and analyze new themes, strategies, and managers.

Portfolio Management

Manage existing private market portfolios, including performance monitoring, reporting, rebalancing, and allocation modeling.

Support the management of both internal portfolios and custom separately managed accounts (SMAs) tailored to individual client mandates.

Analyze fund performance, exposure metrics, and cash flow forecasts to optimize portfolio construction.

Employ a balanced approach to managing risk by ensuring compliance controls and processes (regulatory, compliance, fiduciary) are integrated into day-to-day activities.

Client & Internal Engagement

Support senior management and the investment officers by performing duties such as research, preparation of analytical studies, reports, and presentations.

Work with Relationship Managers, Business Development Officers, and clients to provide manager information and portfolio construction ideas.

Work with team to write white papers and other informational content on relevant topics, including educational/marketing materials to support business development efforts..

Serve as an internal subject matter expert, helping to educate client-facing teams through presentations, calls, and materials.

Participate in or lead client meetings to discuss portfolio construction, market trends, and individual private investments.

Contribute to a strong organizational culture through effective collaboration with operations, compliance, and legal teams to support seamless investment implementation and oversight, resulting in superior client and employee engagement.

Who you are 

Bachelor’s degree required.

Graduate degree in a related field or CFA designation, preferred.

10+ years of relevant experience in private equity, venture capital, investment management, or consulting.

Direct experience with fund selection, co-investments, and/or secondaries required.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including demonstrated experience identifying and quantifying problems and providing effective resolutions.

Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point, as well as financial data software, such as PitchBook, Private i, Prequin, etc.

Ability to synthesize large volumes of information and communicate insights clearly to both investment professionals and clients.

Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; comfortable engaging with sophisticated clients and stakeholders.

Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $175,000 - $225,000 for the Boston, MA market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
