Job Description:
The Controls Engineer will play a critical role in Generation Major Projects, focusing on systems such as the Emerson Ovation and ABB DCS, combustion turbine, and steam turbine control systems, PLCs, and instrumentation. This position involves conducting, coordinating, and supervising complex engineering studies and designs under minimal supervision. The role also requires the development of new techniques and procedures to enhance engineering practices.
Responsibilities
Serve as a liaison between the Engineering Firm technical disciplines and TEC engineering, ensuring adherence to TEC and industry standards during the design phase.Review engineering design calculations, specifications, and drawings.Provide technical support during procurement, specification development, and the bidding process.Monitor engineering progress against schedule to preemptively identify potential issues.Participate in model and constructability reviews, and develop control system factory testing plans.Provide technical support to construction contractors for design drawings, specifications, and contracts.Track contractor progress and provide input during monthly reviews.Coordinate equipment outages, tie-ins, and road closures with station operations and construction contractors.Ensure construction quality control and compliance with design standards.Support RFI resolution between contractors and the Construction Management team.Inspect equipment and materials upon delivery to the site for compliance with specifications and damage assessment.Support construction-to-startup turnover package assembly, walk-downs, and punch lists.Assist in startup and commissioning efforts, including coordination with vendors and station operations.Support station operations and maintenance in procuring long-term spare parts and developing preventative maintenance plans.Essential Skills
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college.Minimum of 8 years of design engineering and project engineering experience.Proficiency in AutoCAD, electrical design, power industry, power plant design, and electrical systems.Experience with generators, turbines, motor control centers, distribution panels, cable trays, panels, and wiring.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.PE license is required for Eng IV level, with a Florida FE or EIT preferred.12 years of direct work experience in Power Plant design engineering on large, multi-disciplinary projects is required for Eng IV level.Direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is preferred.Work Environment
This role requires on-site work, 5 days a week (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) with no remote or hybrid options. The work environment involves working in an industrial setting, including heights and confined spaces, and at a Power Generation facility for up to 25% of the workday. Some overtime, including weekends and holidays, is expected, along with local, national, and limited international travel. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
