Position Description

 

The Kibali Gold Mine Team is seeking to recruit two Senior Hydrogeologist Engineers to join and grow our team.

Key Responsibilities: 

Deliver technical hydrogeologic analysis, making strategic operational and closure recommendations

Ensure that the required hydrogeologic data is collected, compiled, analyzed, interpreted, and applied so that dewatering costs and timelines for operational requirements are communicated accurately to stakeholders and management

Manage field hydrological and hydrogeological programs, contractors and colleagues for collection of high-quality data

Ensure that necessary hydrogeologic review of modelling and mine designs is conducted, and that potential risks and opportunities are identified and communicated to key stakeholders

Ensure on-going communication and cooperation with other departments/functional groups (geology, mine engineering, geotechnical engineering, mine operations, environmental, process, etc.) to optimize the ability for all groups to obtain the necessary information and/or accomplish a shared objective

Ensure that hydrogeologic work is budgeted, forecasted, and communicated appropriately for all projects

Interpret and analyze technical data pertaining to ground and surface water quantity and quality; rainfall and drainage; flood control; and water management

Critically evaluate hydrological and hydrogeological data in the context of mine planning priorities and make recommendations pertaining to water management 

Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, management, and community groups.

Manage the engagement and administration of supporting consultant contracts

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior hydrogeologists and other team members, fostering a culture of learning and development 

 

Qualification Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology, geology, civil engineering (or similar) is required

Eight (8) years of experience in the mining industry is preferred

Detailed knowledge of groundwater flow processes, hydrogeological investigation and monitoring methods is required

Familiarity designing dewatering and depressurization systems is required

Ability to compile and analyze complex hydrological and hydrogeological data; prepare reports and comprehensive studies, and communicate findings effectively in written and oral formats is preferred

Competency with Microsoft Excel is required

 

Experience and Skills Requirements:

Experience organizing and managing large data sets is required

Experience with GIS software, Leapfrog and Surfer is preferred

Familiarity with hydrogeological modelling techniques is required

Experience developing or reviewing hydrogeologic models is highly preferred

Comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations and water management practices applicable in DRC is required
