Purpose
The Senior Health and Safety Advisor supports a portfolio of mining and refinery projects by providing guidance, assurance, and mentoring to ensure effective implementation of health and safety systems and achievement of strategic safety objectives. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, relationship-building, and a practical, consistent approach.
Reporting Line
Reports to the Contract Manager and works across multiple operating sites.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance Ensure activities comply with legislation, standards, and policies. Enforce site-specific safety procedures. Mentor site teams and contractors. Promote safety leadership and best practices. Risk Management Identify hazards and assess risks. Recommend and implement control measures. Participate in risk reviews for critical projects. Incident Management Investigate incidents and near misses. Support root cause analysis and corrective actions. Promote safety KPIs and recognition programs. Attend monthly contractor HSE meetings. Training & Induction Conduct inductions and toolbox talks. Deliver safety training and coordinate certifications. Monitoring & Reporting Perform inspections and audits. Maintain safety records and report performance. Ensure timely completion of prequalification processes. Emergency Preparedness Ensure emergency procedures are in place and understood. Coordinate drills and readiness activities. Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with supervisors, contractors, and project teams. Provide guidance to promote safe work practices. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to enhance safety performance. Support initiatives that improve safety culture. Skills & Experience 8+ years in mining, construction, and operations. Contractor management and field leadership. Strong problem-solving and decision-making under pressure. Effective time management and communication. Conflict resolution and influence across all levels. Desirable Experience Experience with major mining/refining companies. Qualifications Diploma in Occupational/Work Health & Safety. Construction Induction (White Card). Advanced First Aid. Preferred: Lead Auditor certification. ICAM Lead Investigator. Leadership/Management qualifications.
