Senior General Manager

Job Summary:

Exos is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and results-driven General Manager to oversee
operations at a large Jewish Community Center in San Francisco, California. This high-impact
leadership role requires a strategic and empowering manager who excels at building strong
teams, fostering collaboration, and delivering measurable outcomes. The ideal candidate will
bring a forward-thinking mindset, a deep commitment to community, and a leadership style
grounded in vision, empathy, adaptability, and discipline. They will be responsible for fostering a
culture of creativity, engagement, and accountability while aligning with the broader mission and
financial objectives of both Exos and the JCC. Working in close partnership with JCC leadership
and staff, the General Manager will drive daily operations, lead cross-functional initiatives,
develop talent, and ensure the ongoing growth and success of this vibrant, community-centered
organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Business Development

Create and execute long-term business strategies to scale the fitness operation

Use data and KPIs to inform decision-making and monitor business performance

Support P&L influence and control, developing budgets and strategic initiatives

Generate new ideas and create a culture of collaboration and innovation

Operations & Member Experience Management

Drive all aspects of membership business: acquisition, retention, usage, and engagement

Implement the Exos Member Experience Initiative ensuring proper member onboarding

Manage daily operations across 45,000+ sq ft facility including pools, gymnasium, equipment areas, and studios

Oversee 175+ weekly group exercise classes and diverse programming offerings

Team Leadership & Development

Lead and inspire diverse teams of trainers, staff, and managers (180+ team members)

Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate department managers

Foster strong and inclusive staff culture where team members "feel seen and appreciated"

Provide clarity of expectations with empathetic accountability

Programming & Innovation

Launch new fitness programs and services that open revenue streams and drive membership

Deliver diverse, leading-edge fitness programming (wellness, functional training, recovery)

Embrace innovation in service delivery and stay current with industry trends

Identify opportunities for cross-selling services throughout the Center

Sales, Marketing & Community Engagement

Execute digital marketing, branding, and lead generation strategies

Optimize sales funnels and implement client retention strategies

Understand and commit to the mission and vision of the Center

Capture and share information on membership models and industry best practices

Required Qualifications:
 

Experience

Minimum 7 years of General Manager experience within the fitness industry, including membership oversight

5+ years directly supervising large retail fitness businesses

Experience managing teams of leaders who have their own departments

Proven track record launching new initiatives and exceeding revenue goals

Demonstrated success in increasing programming participation in both for-profit and non-profit environments

Education & Technical Skills

Bachelor's degree in fitness or business-related fields

Highly skilled in Google Docs, Excel, MS 365, and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred)

Experience with fitness technology and digital platforms

Ability to identify and use actionable data for decision-making

Current CPR/AED & First Aid certification

Core Competencies

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Strong leadership, interpersonal, and supervisory abilities

Financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting

Understanding of KPIs that drive fitness businesses

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working at a Jewish Community Center

Experience in high-end community serving spaces

Successful track record managing sales, personal/small group training, operations, and customer service

Strong knowledge of San Francisco fitness market and industry trends

Per pay transparency requirements, the compensation for this position ranges from $150,000/year to $175,000/year. Minimum rates may vary based on local wage laws. Pay is dependent on factors including site location, specialty, certifications and work experience as well as other business needs. Exos offers a comprehensive benefits package for all full time employees (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements), which includes health insurance, life and disability benefits, 401(k) plan, and paid time off.  Additionally, Exos offers a variety of part time benefits (subject to eligibility requirements).
