Senior Formulation Scientist
Job Title: Formulation Scientist Job Description This position involves researching, generating, and directing new product formulations from conceptualization through development and manufacture. The role requires collaboration with various departments to generate new formulations, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure product quality and compliance. Responsibilities + Research and generate new product formulations from conceptualization through development and manufacture. + Collaborate with Sales to generate new formulations for customers and assist in the development of new products. + Work with Operations teams to troubleshoot technical, formulation, and processing issues during product development. + Collaborate with the Quality Assurance department to develop proper documentation for new formula and product development projects. + Utilize knowledge of production equipment such as tablet presses and capsule filling machines to troubleshoot and solve product performance issues. + Troubleshoot challenges with tablets and capsules to ensure they withstand processes such as coating and packaging. + Initiate label copy for supplement facts and regulatory labeling requirements. + Drive, manage, evaluate, and follow through on all aspects of product development. + Integrate consumer insights into product innovation development. + Collaborate with sales and marketing to develop product quote processes. + Source and identify new concepts, ingredients, and product forms through internal and external resources. + Maintain competitive knowledge of new technologies, ingredients, and product forms. + Prepare materials and present new launches at sales meetings. + Participate in product and package configurations. + Develop recipes and prototypes to drive new concepts forward. + Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality control protocols. + Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical audiences. + Participate in PR, media interviews, trade shows, and other events as requested. + Prioritize and manage multiple customer products. + Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills + Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Food Science, Nutrition/Dietetics or related field. + Several years of hands-on experience as a Formulator in a solid, full-scale manufacturing environment. + Strong understanding of factors impacting product flavor and quality. + Working knowledge of basic lab techniques and cGMP standards. + Experience in product and formula development and evaluation. + Strong knowledge of ingredient costing and technology. + Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance work instructions, procedure manuals, and SDS sheets. + Effective oral and written communication skills. + Proficiency in using simple statistical methods. + Ability to solve moderately complex problems in standardized situations. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Familiarity with computer software including word processors and spreadsheets. + Strong presentation skills for communicating new product ideas. + Ability to communicate effectively in a cross-functional team environment. Work Environment The work environment requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 pounds with mechanical assistance. It involves standing, walking, bending, and stooping for extended periods and examining objects at various heights. Normal visual acuity is needed. The role demands high organization and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment and decision-making abilities. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $85.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
