Senior Footwear Researcher

The Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, innovators, and scientists who lead with science to make athletes* measurably better. The NSRL Footwear Research team conducts and applies scientific research results to drive new concepts and product platforms across multi-functional innovation teams.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
As a Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) Footwear Senior Researcher, you will be responsible for executing research studies to define biomechanical and physiological mechanisms that lead to innovative products for everyday athletes. We are looking for a teammate who is excited to use their experimental biomechanics skills to contribute to the product creation process by working hands-on with athletes, who has a passion for working with product, and who embodies a problem-solving mindset.

M.Sc. or M.S. in Biomechanics, Engineering, Kinesiology, Human Factors, or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training.Experience with traditional and prototype tools used to collect biomechanical data and understanding of how they work (e.g. motion capture, force plates, pressure insoles, EMG, etc.)Hands-on experience working with human test subjects and/or athletes, and excitement about conducting experimental researchStrong communication skills and ability to build trust across audiencesAn innovator’s mindset: comfort with ambiguity, bias toward action, and resilience in the face of challengesExperience writing programs in Python and/or MATLAB to analyze biomechanical data is preferredProfessional experience as a biomechanics researcher is a plus

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You will report to a Research Manager in the NSRL and work under the direction of Principal and Lead researchers on the Footwear Team, with an emphasis on running research. You will serve as a full-time contributor to the product creation process, interacting with research and product development teams to support innovation concepts.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
You will use existing hardware and software systems to conduct biomechanics research, and aid in developing new research approaches, tools, methods and procedures. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary research teams, inform protocol designs, share results, and discuss application of findings. You will demonstrate Nike's commitment to product performance research through attendance at scientific meetings, clinics and conferences.
