Senior Financial Analyst
Job Title: Senior Financial AnalystJob Description This Senior Financial Analyst role supports the Canadian retail banking line of business, focusing on portfolios related to personal deposits and retail lending. You will join a dynamic, close-knit team and play a key role in financial modeling, forecasting, reporting, and portfolio management. The position requires a flexible and adaptive mindset, a strong eagerness to learn, and a proactive approach to taking on new challenges, including day-to-day deliverables and project support. Responsibilities + Collaborate with Senior management to understand financial requirements and implement updates in financial and data models. + Perform ongoing maintenance and updates of financial and data models to ensure they remain accurate and aligned with business needs. + Execute monthly roll-overs, ensuring accurate data ingestion and adherence to business requirements. + Analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and identify trends, variances, and key performance indicators. + Prepare and update financial presentations for business reviews using tools such as PowerPoint. + Collect and process data to assist with inquiries from various business groups across the organization. + Perform day-to-day investigations into financial and operational questions, providing timely support and insights. + Generate and distribute reports to multiple business units, ensuring information is clear, accurate, and actionable. + Retrieve information from existing models and databases to fulfill internal requests and support decision-making. + Support ad hoc projects by demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in taking on new tasks and challenges. + Contribute to the development and enhancement of financial models and reports as requested by the team. + Participate in project work related to financial planning and analysis, including forecasting, planning, and KPI tracking. + Work closely with legal entity experts, managers, and Senior managers to support overall portfolio management. Essential Skills + 3–5+ years of experience as a Financial Analyst, preferably within financial services. + Bachelor’s degree in accounting or another finance-related discipline. + Strong financial planning and analysis experience, including forecasting, planning, and KPI tracking. + Proficiency in financial modeling and financial reporting. + Experience collecting and processing data, conducting investigations, and performing trend and variance analysis. + Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and various advanced functions. + Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information. + Experience with reconciliations and analytical reviews of financial data. + High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. + Investigative and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to contribute ideas and insights. + Well-rounded, versatile, and adaptive approach, with the ability to contribute to tasks beyond the primary portfolio. + Positive attitude and a strong eagerness to learn and take on new challenges. Additional Skills & Qualifications + CPA designation or active pursuit of a CPA is a strong asset. + Experience with Power BI or SQL is an advantage. + Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise financial systems. + Experience with Anaplan or other planning and budgeting tools. + Background in accounting and finance within a banking or financial services environment. + Experience supporting month-end processes and related reporting. + Exposure to data-driven decision-making and business intelligence tools. + Demonstrated ability to work effectively in project environments and support multiple stakeholders. Work Environment This role is based in a Canadian retail banking environment in Toronto, Ontario, working within a hybrid model that combines in-office and remote work. The standard working hours are approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no regular overtime requirements. The position operates in a professional office setting within a large financial institution, collaborating closely with Senior managers, managers, and legal entity experts. You will use modern productivity and analytics tools, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis platforms such as Power BI and SQL-based systems, as well as enterprise technologies like SAP and Anaplan. The culture emphasizes collaboration, adaptability, and continuous learning, with opportunities for extension or conversion to a full-time role based on performance and business needs.
